Not sure what this is? Here's a post explaining the series!: https://aryion.com/g4/view/712411
____________
There was a bit of a split in which job people were interested in, but I thought there were some pretty good arguments on why the fairy job might be a *bad* idea for Adrea, so we took the job to look into the imp! And met a friendly face at the guild along the way.
Now that we've gotten some insight into the situation, what should our plan be moving forward? Remember that it's only early afternoon right now so we've got a fair bit of time before the night market would start if that ends up being our main angle for the investigation.
You can find Adrea’s character sheet here!: https://aryion.com/g4/view/712418
Remember, you can ask any questions about the world (that are relevant to the current chapter) if you think you want/need more information about something! I'll do a 'live' intelligence check before answering if it's something Adrea might know.

What does Adrea know about summoning imps specifically? Earlier in the series, it was mentioned that summoned animals tend to follow their summoner's instructions exactly. Does that extend to imps as well?
In any case, Thalia seems to be a good resource if we want to know a bit more about summoning.

Agreed, hell, we could drag Thalia to stay with us for the night, and see if it's another case of another witch/wizard trying to make a more powerful summon stay in the material plane this time.

While I'm not opposed to getting Thalia's advice, I think asking her to directly help us by staying the night and helping us catch the imp isn't a great idea. At that point we're no longer working alone, and would probably end up splitting the reward with her. It also probably wouldn't look good for us from the guild's perspective, us not being able to handle a simple job like this alone.
Obviously if it turns out there's a powerful witch/wizard behind the imp, then we might want to consider getting her involved or just reporting back to the guild and leaving them to deal with it.

Sapient creatures like imps are still bound to follow the commands of their summoner, but the relationship is more complicated than more simple minded things like wisps and animals. They won't just mindlessly follow instructions to the letter regardless of context like we saw with the fox way back on Bally's farm, and since they have human-level intelligence they are capable of being sneaky and doing things like finding loopholes or other ways to technically comply with commands without *really* doing what the summoner wanted.
This bit of information on summoning that Masrah explained back when we fought her nymph for our initiation would also be relevant to an imp: "...when it comes to sapient beings all but the strongest mages must first commune with the entity and agree on terms before they allow themselves to be bound. Unless you’re lucky enough to find a particularly agreeable creature, that pact will involve some concessions for the summoned entity..."

The plot thickens! Thalia seems like a really fun character, I look forward to seeing how her investigation of the fairy goes and if Sirna does end up being involved. We should definitely check in with her in a day or two and see how it/she are going, but be careful not to arouse suspicion.
As far as what to do about the Imp... To start with what do we know about them? Any special senses or abilities that could be relevant? Given the time we have, if there are any gaps in our knowledge I'd be in favor of inquiring with Thalia about it or doing a little research at the local library so we're crystal clear on what we're facing off against.
The approach we take to the imp should probably take that info into account. If it doesn't have the ability to teleport or particularly strong perception or anything like that, I'd propose hiding in the store and trying to take it by surprise. Do we have any idea how much something like a scroll of invisibility would cost us and how that compares to the reward for the job? If it's affordable it could be a good way of making sure we get the drop on the imp once it shows up.
I think the end goal should be to catch the imp in the act and capture her, before interrogating her to find out who/where her master is.

Imps are one of the most common summoned creatures and often get used as an example when discussing the art, so Adrea is somewhat familiar with them, though not an expert by any means. Imps are fairly weak creatures that don't have any special or exceptional magical power to her knowledge, though they are intelligent humanoids and not mindless beasts. They come from the hellish realm of Eofol, and from that Adrea would infer that they likely have some level of fire resistance and might know basic fire magic.
As far as invisibility, Adrea is certain that potions can be made that give the effect, though doesn't really have any idea how expensive it might be. Turning invisible through a *spell* is fairly high level air magic, so she suspects it might be pricey.

In that case since we have the time I think we should look into how much an invisibility potion would cost, and if it's well within our price range and much less than the reward for the job, pick it up to help catch the imp. Didn't Sirna sell potions? If so there might be a good place to get one.

Thalia seems very cute! We should definitely keep our job to ourselves but maybe we could get advice from Thalia and train with her sometime? Since Thalia is more knowledgeable about the school she might be able to advice use on avoiding (or joining in on) funny business going on at the school.

How close to the summoner do the summoned creatures have to be? My current (far fetched) theory is since it's a jewelery store, it may be that one of the items that a traveller used to barter with (at the night market) is cursed/enchanted to be a gateway of sorts to summon the imp.

At present, Adrea doesn't really have any idea what the limit is on how far away summoned creatures can move, if there is one
