Bae-Yeou is a Gumiho (Korean fox-spirit, analogous to the japanese Kitsune) who first appeared on the Korean peninsula around 1200 years ago. For a couple hundred years she simply vagabonded around Korea and China, preying on itinerant children, traveling merchants, bandit, vagrants and outcasts. Eventually, she learned that some humans are useful to keep around, at least for a little while~ She mastered the art of seduction, of inflaming desires in some or provoking jealousy in others. She learned how to trick and manipulate, how to say the words that a person wants to hear whilst still leading them to the conclusion that benefited her. As she saw humans previously as a mere food source now she regarded them as tool to be used for grander purposes.

In the mid of 17th century she began building a criminal organization that would come to eclipse all others in east asia: The Golden Fox Syndicate. She would seduce men in key positions of power and enlist them into her cult-like harem of lovers and indoctrinate them into total devotion to her. Of course this was all a game for Bae-Yeou, she didn't really have any feelings for any of them and never hesitated to "retire" any of the devotee who faltered in loyalty or outlived their usefulness. In truth, she regarded humans with contempt and ridicule. Such silly and fragile beings... So easily used and manipulated... So vulnerable to strife, diseases and hunger that it truly is astonishing they haven't gone extinct yet. But the humans will not die out, demons and spirits like Bae-Yeou will make sure of that. Just like a shepard takes care of its flock, so too will the Gumiho take care that their food source does not disappear.

Nowaday Bae-Yeou mostly spends her days managing her criminal empire, making deals and taking care of troublesome people, be they police officers, judges, politicians, witnesses or rival gangs. While she takes cares of outside threats, the criminal matriarch must also remain vigilant of elements within her own organization as well. Ruling with a mixture of love, fear and desires, she has to keep reminding her subordinate of their place and must often punish those who show just a little bit too much ungratefulness.

A wonderful commission I got from TheTunaFish (from FA) of a new character I've been working on for a while, a Gumiho, which is the Korean equivalent to a Kitsune. And yes she is a fox, her ears are droopy because of the weighted talisman she wears on them. She has all the usual powers of a fox spirit plus her expansive knowledge of sorcery.
