as the spirit of a river, arethusa is VERY old, and has seen much more than you would expect. if you eat her physical form, she'll just rise back out of the river again. kinda convenient!

she sees all the rivers and streams that branch off of her as her children, though certain others she sees as siblings (particularly lakes, marshes, and swamps).

she doesn't need to eat, but will eat people in any way they want to be eaten - no reason to turn down a perfectly good snackrifice, after all!! many people have asked to return to the mother-womb that fed their civilization, and some of those people have been reborn as the spirits of rivers and streams that branch off of her main body - her precious children!
