And thus Lucario was driven extinct in the wild by overhunting, and their reputation suddenly changed from proud and noble warriors to Humanities subservient prey sluts.
So ever wonder how pokeballs worked? Well like ten minutes into Legends the game tells you. All pokemon just naturally have the ability to shrink. No there is no advanced shrinking technology in pokeballs, no Pokemon are not beings actually made up of energy. Pokeballs are just some kind of tree goard and the smell helps induce a pokemons shelter instinct. (still no word on how pokeballs mind control the vicious beast that was attacking you 2 second ago into being your obedient pet.) And no this is not a retcon as aperantly there is Japanese exclusive content from all the way back in gen 1 that talks about this shrinking thing being the case.
I find it funny that it seems like the entire pokemon fandom has taken this major piece of lore, and just immediately threw it in the trash. Now I don't go looking through a ton of pokemon specific content but with the potential fetish fuel of pokemon being able to shrink I'm surprised I have never seen it mentioned or even joked about. Then again I don't blame them becouse I saw this line shortly after the game launched and its taken this long for even my view of pokemon to shift enough to allow this new piece of lore to fit in. And I sure do intend to use this peice of lore in my ascertian that pokemon are made to be prey.
So the shrinking pokemon is one half of this comic the other half is a joke on part of legends gameplay that was a massive turn off to me, the dex. I had actually gotten my hopes up on learning that we would be actually writing the pokedex this time around. What I was hopping for was actually observing and subtly manipulateing the pokemons behavior in the wild to fill out the dex, and would be fine with tasks to be performed with the captured mons as well. I dislike catching pokemon I don't intend to use. Mechanics like these treat pokemon as disposible things your not supposed to care about and I don't like it. It's perhaps contrary to My portrayal online but well I am a man of chaos. And if the games made my PC my sac maybe I would depopulate the entire pokmeon world hehehehe.

I initially felt that way about the pokedex as well, that it kind of encourages catching 'mons en mass which makes them feel less special especially when you're filling up pastures with so many dupes. It's very contrary to how I normally play Pokemon.
But I realized that, while the game definitely rewards playing it that way and the mechanics make it feel like the optimal strategy, it doesn't necessarily incentivize it. You're really only encouraged to catch a maximum of two Pokemon each if they have different gender forms like Pikachu or like the Burmys having so many different varieties. Otherwise you can easily fill up the pokedex for every pokemon by just catching the one or two and then simply using them or battling wild ones. Usually only the first two or three research entires involving catching the pokemon, the rest are "defeat this many" or "see them using this move" which can be done by ones you fight OR by your own one, or even "feed them this many times" and stuff like that.
I think the idea does convey the sense of researching the pokemon by observing them, it just goes about it in different ways. Yes you CAN just catch fifty Bidoofs and that'll give you all the insight into the species you could possibly need by sheer quantity of specimens. Or you could just catch a couple, but then observe the wild ones doing a particular attack move which provides insight into how they defend themselves from predators or make observations about their diet by seeing what food they respond to, ect.

Ya it's quite a bit of hyperbole on my part. It's largely me just being sick with pokemon never doing anything but combat, or their non combat features being extremely disappointing.

Oh how the past used to be ~ x3

They where simpler times, better in many ways. But perhaps we can bring some of the past back.

You know I feel like pokemon would be a lot more fun if this was how you had to catch pokemon. I would definitely play it more often

I would definitely still play Pokémon if that where the case hehehe.
