"Far out in the ocean, farther than one cares to venture alone, lies The Lure. Like its name suggests, it uses a lure to draw its prey close. The false mermaid moves freely and is able to produce sounds, though it only has a limited range of calls that are more akin to dolphin chirps than actual words. Yet despite this oddity, the sight of a 'mermaid' spurs sailors into drawing closer. The Lure does not try and eat just a single man, no. That would not satisfy it. Instead The Lure goes for the belly of the ship, biting out the bottom and eating all it can like a gluttonous vacuum. The diet of the Lure, while mostly consisting of ships and men, will sometimes eat whales and other large creatures if there is no available food source. If you are out at sea and happen to see a mermaid, avoid them at all cost. You never know what lies beyond the surface."
