I've had a request to do a sort of encyclopedia on the variose species I use. I started it and got a real neat idea. The idea was to do it "in universe" by having the variose articles written by characters in the roleplaying world rather then by me.

This would be neat since it would add another dimenson to the world. On the other hand, the information wouldn't be as reliable, and possibly confusing. For instance, a war between the humans and toraki would be presented differently from the toraki view than it would be from the humans.

What do you think?

I listen to audiobook and music at work. I recently finished a lecture series on Niccolo Machiavelli, mostly on The Prince and The Discources on the first ten books of Livy. One thing that specifically caught my attention was one of his chapters on Cesorae Borga and "well-used cruelty." It interested me enough that I felt like doing a story exploring it

I got through the outline of it, and then started to feel weird. It felt somehow wrong writing a story advocating the view that cruelty can be used well. The problem is that while I do find the view interesting, I don't believe it. I in fact, find that belief rather repulsive.

The argument I make against that is that writers write about such things as fairies all the time. Perhaps a minority of them...

I'm working on a future story about the character Liinfa. The beginning has a monologue of Liinfa justifying her actions of kidnapping a foreign citizen to hold him hostage. The end of her monologue has her denouncing those who would "stay in secluded monastaries away from a fallen and immoral world" in an effort to stay pure. She concludes that "such people are not saints" and takes a slightly machiavellian tone that "one has to get dirty"

Now here's the problem, the line in one of my drafts was "such people are not saints but moral eunuchs" Now, the issue is about the word "eunuch." Moral eunuch is obviosly used by her as a derogatory term, but eunuch is often used in this world as an honorific (referring to those who...

In the mail yesterday. I haven't started it up yet but I've checked the specifications. It should play SNES,, GBA, Genesis, arcade, and other games on it. There are also homebrew applications. Its also an e-reder (the only thing I can think you'd want that for are faqs) music player, and low-end video player. Meaning I'm rather excited.

There;'s a slot for micro sd cards but no where to put cartridges. Meaning that all the games will have to be loaded from the internet. Its like the creators got together and said "we'll never stop people from downloading ROMS. I know, lets make money off it!"

I'm currently reading a lot about Just War theory. I'm also reading some books on Just Peacemaking and Pacifism. One of the critiques of Just War I'm reading is the book "What about Hitler?" One of the critiques offered is the difficulty of discerning whether a war is just. My response to that is "isn't that a GOOD thing?" What important issues in life are easy?

In fact, that would be a good argument for a Just War theorist. "The difficulty of finding a just cause for a war means that a truly just ruler will go to war rarely"

'm a member of a writing group and I try to remain flexible. There's only two things I have listed that I will not read: rape and the damsels-in-distress genre. I think my reservations over rape is self-explanatory whereas I dislike the damsels-in-distress genre is due to the inherent sexism I see in it.

Now, I look at my submission and I feel a little like a hypocrite. Its a lot darker then anything that I've written before but the problem comes with two scenes in particular. One of them occurs near the middle of the chapter with the Volksons trying to entice the Terrans into war with the Thamaskarans, and the second has to do with Kirei's backstory.

The context of the first scene is that the Thamaskarans are growing in power and numbers, and the Volksons can't...
