Okay, any experts in magic or psionics out there? Posted 16 years ago
Because as someone once PM'd me... magic and psionics are more than about just throwing out fantastic grenades that go boom in someone's face.

I've got a few rules down for "Siluvara Files" magic:

You need mana for spell-casting. Although Psionicists would kick your ass for saying they need mana (they call it 'ki' or life force), it's all the same thing. And the psionicists are wrong, because their psi abilities are not tied into life force. (You can totally exhaust your psi abilities for the day and not die. If you somehow exhaust your life force, you be DOA baby.) A psi-mage (one who has both abilities) has a common pool of energy, often they call it 'mana-ki'.

Psi-mages are highly sought but they have a major drawback - they tend to be...

Fairies and size changing in the Siluvara universe Posted 16 years ago
The issue with size changing, primarily (but not exclusively) a fairy thing, can be a bit confusing even though it is really straightforward, so I figured I'd explain it a bit.

Changing one's size is an ability strongly related to one's magic reserves. It has never been known to be an ability available to psychics, only mages, namely fairies.

Male fairies with red soul auras (the ones you'd better avoid) can grow/shrink their prey. All female fairies, blue or red soul auras, can size change their prey. A human sized fairy can shrink a giant down to bite size or a bite size person to giant sized if she has enough magic reserves. It is in fact fatal for a fairy to make a human a giant because the human's organs will fairly quickly fail. Making another fairy...

I am loving this whole deconstruction thing Posted 16 years ago
In honor of this thread.

I've been watching America's Next Top Model re-runs and it has occurred to me... I know lots of women who are jealous of supermodels and they want to be super models. But when they see this show, wow, they say it sucks to be those women. Well hell's bells, folks, it looks to me like America's Next Top Model is a friggin deconstruction of the real life supermodel lifestyle trope! Glamour, fans, money! BZZZZT! Your ass swims in ice cold water to do underwater poses, you gotta worry about gaining 1 pound, you gotta jump through all kinds of hoops with poses, you have outrageous contests and assignments, and in the end you've got Miss Jay (a dude, folks) over there wisecracking...

Wow. Writing vore scenes is hard to do. Posted 16 years ago
I'm writing my Sunflower Fairy submission for Eka's Writer's Group as I speak, and I've noticed a huge pattern that has slowed me down every time I write a vore story.

I can dive into an unbirth scene quite easily because they're very cheerful, even if I have to make it look scary to the prey sometimes it always ends well for the prey (although if he has some sin on his soul the fairy can absorb his memories, now that can lead to trouble!).

But vore? That's a different issue altogether. Writing about someone getting swallowed alive just isn't easy to do because the act is so terrifyingly reprehensible. You know the type, the kind of person who hates slasher flicks? Well that's me and vore. The fact that I have ideas on how to make vore horrifying and I know how to...

Who are the Manaki? Posted 16 years ago
Homo excelsior. The mutants. Psi-Mages. Ogres (by those who hate them).

The Manaki.

Carl Barrett's "Human Superweapon" project intended to produce a new race of human beings capable of mastering both the psychic and magic arts, and he died of old age shortly after a secret meeting with one of the first adult humans known to be endowed with both sets of paranormal powers: Bernard Sabick.

The term 'Manaki' was forged in the fires of the Psi-Mage war that started brewing some time during World War III. Mages - exclusively women, as only women could harness the power of magic - and Psionicists, exclusively male, as only males could access the raw power of the mind - first came to blows when a Mage revived a project by Rose Vallance (note: she is the...

The Siluvaran Files Posted 16 years ago
July 7, 2408:

Kienna Lauacateine, as she calls herself, is a decidedly voluptuous woman of elfish make whose muscles and superhuman might are highly concealed by her soft lush curves. She was first discovered near the Hyperion base, and was subsequently shot down by a GFX-81 Reflex High Agility-class Starfighter, then forced to hide at the Hyperion hydrocarbon refinery base. She was spotted by a Black Hand operative thanks in large part to two amorous military officers who accidentally turned on a gravitational disturbance sensor that detected Kienna's movements.

A side note: said officers were attempting to fill in a gap left by a scheduling error. Had they not been there, it is unlikely that Kienna would have been spotted, at least so easily or quickly. Any...

What are the Grue? Posted 16 years ago
July 7, 2408:

The Grue initially appeared on this date as represented by one individual - one that would later be identified by his alien enemy as Rakshasa - the Grue Prince.

'Rakshasa' allegedly first encountered humans in the form of a one Vincent Hersch, a 23 year old Homo Excelsior-class mutant, who was hitching a ride in automated Mini-Hauler A6, which was mining the asteroid field at the time. From what we know, the creature supposedly attacked him in his sleep, attempting to swallow him for its first meal since its arrival in our solar system. The attempt failed and resulted in a fight that lasted until Hauler A6 reached Earth. This fight no doubt ended poorly for Rakshasa, who fled the ship and melted his way into Interplanetary Express Hauler SLH-149...
