Kitsune digest the sins that corrup the soul (or that part of the soul) and it will be expelled purified, if the body is still alive as in this case that piece of soul will return to the body, if the body has died the soul ascends to heaven. But it is the special case of Kitsune that "eats sins", if he wanted he could digest the soul completely and absorb it, in that case the original soul would little by little recover and grow again, unless Kitsune had consumed most of it, In that case the person would be left in a state without consciousness, moving only by basic instincts and desires.
