Yeah, the reference is to a very obscure video game character. There existed an old RPG game series called "Might and Magic" which was basicly a Turn-based open world fantasy and Sci-fi RPG.
Of this game series there was a slightly better known spin-off series called Heroes of Might and Magic. It kept the RPG element of the Former and revamped the Gameplay into a Turn based Strategy game, with a chess-like feel to tactical depth.
Back in the old days this got pretty out of hand, with "Heroes of might and magic" becoming even more well known then "Might and Magic".
Today however ... it became a ghost, the kind of ghost that left its mysterious impact on gaming, but its influence remaining completely unnamed. (That is why, whenever a player starts playing it, the player immidiately realizes, that this game is sort of familiar, despite never having played it before.)
