Magic is a funny thing; what one person does can lead into something else being done by someone else, and so on and so forth. What this means, is that if you inadvertantly get cursed to end up as someone's meal, doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be the one to gobble you up.

Poor Eva, your fate was sealed as mana-dense semen the moment you had your first reading. I would've liked to see her panic as Ruby's one-eyed serpent gobbled her up, but Ruby has always been a more devious and quick-acting predator.
