Drew's "first meal" was a difficult one; while it was only an animal, it felt as though a part of his soul died at the moment, from the joy he felt upon drinking its blood.

The fact was not helped by Annaro's smug gloating.

With the trail of blood its easy enough to picture the animal being just below the image.

I'm glad, but I should've added something to further clarify the detail. Without me saying, people might've assumed it was a person.
