In the world of RWBY, There’s a race of people with animal traits called ‘Faunus’. Blake happens to be a cat faunus with cat ears she sometimes hides under her bow. The Faunus had faced all manner of discrimination in the lore of the series and Blake was an ex member of a Faunus extremist group that used violence against humans for being racist against Faunus.
