“Sorry, you lost my game, rules are rules.”

Chided the cat with a nonchalant purr, as not a hint of sympathy was laced in her smug voice. The sarcasm rich in her words as she spoke, calm and composed as she casually reminded yet another mouse of their proper place in the food chain. Sure, she may have shifted the goalposts slightly whilst she toyed with her food, but that was a predator’s privilege, as it was simply their fault for nature making them snack-sized. They existed for her amusement, and when she tired from the fun, they invariably met their end in her belly, as little more than a petite treat to cap off what for her was an enjoyable encounter.

The triumphant feline contently dangling the wriggling morsel above her yawning maw, giving the squeaking thing a good look at where they were going. Her grasp lingering for but a moment, before gently letting go, allowing the helpless mouse to fall onto her waiting tongue. Her lips snapping closed, and with an audible gulp, the mewling mouse was just a wriggling lump opulently sliding down her throat. The rodent small enough to swallow without incident, allowing the cat to trace the mouse’s seeping progress down her gullet, until she lost track of the diminutive bulge between her collar bones. A moment later she felt a weak squirming quivering in her stomach, letting her know the mouse had safely made it to the digestive destination they would be spending the rest of their rapidly shortening lifespan.

With the devouring deed done, the pleased pussy could now sit back and let her proficient gut deal with this mouse like the countless before them. She could feel the little thing desperately wriggling within her belly, trapped and terrified, but that would stop soon; it always did. That should have been the end, the ingestive interaction complete and self-contained, but instead the feline suddenly felt light-headed. A fluxing lurch cascading through her system like a cold chill, as with an ungainly thud she clumsily fell backwards completely lacking in her normally poised sense of balance. She landed on her bum with a meaty plap which would be sure to bruise, though instead of a jolt of pain, there was only a dull numbness emanating from her round rump with an out-of-season peppering of gooseflesh.

The toned tooshie alarmingly not the least bit tender, as a wave of fatigue rapidly overtook the normally spry cat. The feeling in her legs evaporating in a tingle of pins and needles, leaving lethargia to drown her senses like a chilling wave. Her eyelids growing heavy, her heart slowing even as she began to panic about her loss of control, as everything seemed to unravel with each dragging breath. For a moment she managed to remain upright for but a fleeting moment, stubbornly attempting to retain her composure, before foundering and abruptly blacking out as she struck the uncaring floor with violent smack. A shudder running through her body with a shivering spasm reminiscent of a cold sweat, but as soon as she heard the noise of her body striking the ground was she lurching upwards like she had just been splashed by a bucket of ice water.

The impact jerking her back to reality with a lost “Huh?” rippling through her fuzzy brain, as the groggy moggy opened her hazy eyes with a disorientated squint. The feeling of being lost in a deep sleep thawing through her stupefied mind, as it took her cloudy vision a moment to realize everything around her seemed a whole lot bigger than what she was used to from her prone perspective. Her surroundings seeping in in slow motion, as she suddenly found herself looking up at a towering visage of herself like some weird mirrored déjà vu. Everything confusing, as she heard her own words repeated booming back to her, as the goliath mirror image repeated a sentence she had spoken only a few minutes prior like a cruel echo from her peckish past.

“Hey there mouse….” She said, a familiar self-assured smile glowing on her face, filling the muzzy feline with dread, as she had messed with mice enough to realize where this was going. Even so, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing, her senses trying to find a gear as the only thing she could think was “Is that…Me?”. Every feature on the feline’s face right, creating a jarring reality, as the cat simply couldn’t believe that she was looking at herself. This had to be a wild fever dream, too vivid to be real, as perhaps the mouse she had just made a meal of had eaten something to give her this bad trip. The cat tensing her teeth, still feeling dazed, as she tried to make heads or tails of what was going on, as she seemed to have abruptly descended into a trippy nightmare after enjoying what up until now had been a normal mid-morning brunch…

Another day, another mouse meal, though this one doesn't quite go as planned for the smug feline...
