Mia-Ti ( MianQ), Oxochalt of the Mictlani, has brought friendship, prosperity, and a new, kinder Faith to the Dragon Kingdom.

Needless to say, this will not do.

Queen Elleri of the incumbent Bledhgoeden dynasty, though sympathetic to the Oxochalt’s cause, cannot afford to let any power grow unchecked that might challenge her rule. Nor can the Temple of Death allow a foreign heretic to amass followers.

It begins with rumours of Mictlani terror, of innocents devoured by their feathered beasts. A bounty is posted for followers of the Oxochalt, in an attempt to goad the clans into betraying their illustrious ally.
The clans do not waver. They know this is the queen’s doing, and they know the Oxochalt will soon be strong enough to overwhelm her through economic and diplomatic might alone. And when that day comes, they believe their loyalty will be rewarded.

At last, the queen has no choice but to allow the Temple of Death to draw together the Faithful of the land into an Army of the Inquisition, to defeat the foreign invaders. The Temple offers the assistance of this army to any clan who will wage war on the Mictlani.

The Mictlani have built a peaceful, prosperous existence in the Yancuiltlan Mission. There are no great warriors among them, aside from the Oxochalt herself- a relic of a different life, in a different land.

She responds to the Temple’s proposition with a proposition of her own for the chieftains- convert to her Faith, swear an oath to defend it, and when she has swept the Temple away, she will give you the throne. She does not want to rule this foreign land, only to bring the light of true Faith.

One chieftain agrees to her proposition- Kaelric Draeven ( shrunken1ninja) of Clan Thaldran, an adamant merchant who has become prosperous through his alliance with the Mission. He stands up before his clan and declares his conversion, and his commitment to the Faith of the Oxochalt.

One chieftain agrees to the Temple’s proposition- Maebe Corcairan ( Brainfood) of the Conclave, a secretive, sadistic scholar of alchemy and esoterica. Her cult of followers shares contempt for the Faiths of the Temple and the Mission alike, but they understand power, and how to seize it when it’s offered.

Mia-Ti understands that she is not yet strong enough to defeat the Conclave and the Army of the Inquisition single-handed. But dragons are alchemic beasts, who carry their power in their fat. And nobody in the kingdom has access to a greater feast than Mia-Ti.

For an entire month, nobody in Yancuiltlan eats a living soul. Nobody but Mia-Ti. Every landed family under her dominion sends their monthly tribute of serfs not to the clan, but to Mia-Ti herself. The spoils of the Mission’s rich trade agreements are brought straight to her humble stone house.

For a month, she sits in solemn silence and devours all who are brought to her, who gladly give themselves to her. For alchemic fat is earned by the bond between eater and eaten, whether that bond be love or hate. And no other warrior could possibly come close to the love the Oxochalt has for her people.

The hour of battle comes.

A braver, stupider chieftain might have marched into the heart of Yancuiltlan territory and attacked one of the Oxochalt’s strongest, most loyal families.
But Maebe chooses to test the waters first. She sends her warriors, accompanied by the Army of the Inquisition, to harass a newly converted family, a family only just brought in under the Oxochalt’s protection, who have yet to serve the Mission’s interests in any way.

She is raising a challenge to Mia-Ti. “Will you come and save them?”

Mia-Ti is still weaker, on her own, than the Army of the Inquisition. Given another month of feasting, that might change.
But how can she claim that she deserves to feast on her followers, if she won’t defend them from their enemies?

She cannot risk everything and lose, but she cannot sit and do nothing either.
In the end, she lets fate decide. A roll of the die.

It’s decided. She stands up, and waddles off to battle.

She isn’t alone. Several families of warriors have joined her cause, though their might is nothing next to hers.

The battle is close. The Army of the Inquisition begins to melt before the gigantic quivering blob of justice.
But numbers prevail. Pinned down and surrounded, Mia-Ti submits to her enemies.

Maebe sits out the battle, patiently waiting for her dinner in the darkness of her keep.
Her excitement starts to build.
There is no greater joy, she feels, than to snuff out hope with one comfy squiggle of her stomach. And how often in a thousand years are the hopes of so many invested in a single meal?

Elated, her warriors enter, with the most delicious prize in the kingdom.
She dismisses them.

This victory deserves some privacy.

Session 1 of the first Official Dragon Coup Campaign ends, with the digestion of Mia-Ti, Oxochalt of the Yancuiltlan Mission.
Two contenders for the throne remain- Maebe Corcairan and Kaelric Draeven. Mia-Ti will continue the game as sentient fat.
