END OF A DAY, END OF A LIFE
This is the role play between Snakenard and Halkyon on Jan 26,2009.
Players:
* Pred1: [1]Snakenard - Still growing feral green tree boa
* Prey1: [2]Halkyon - Feral kingfisher
_________________________________________________________________
20:21:09 :Halkyon sighs, ruffling his feathers after perching in a
nearby tree. It's been a long, long night, and the bird's rather
exhausted after a long day of fishing and flight. Stretching first his
left, then his right wings, the avian begins his nightly preening, his
motions moving the leavy branch he's perched upon in light, small
circles.
20:25:42 :Snakenard is an emerald green tree snake. His green scales
match the color of the trees foliage. It has been a while sence the
young snake has had a meal, and being a growing snake, Snakenard needs
a bit of protein to feed his growing body. Snakenard has been resting,
as tree boas do by curling up into a ball on a limb of a tree. His
light sleep is disturbed by a vibration in the limb on which he is
resting. Awakened by the promise of a meal, Snakenard flicks his
tongue to catch any aromas on the air. "Humm,", he thinks to himself,
"The air taste as if there is a bird around, but there is a
distinctive fishy taste at the same time.".
20:29:41 :Halkyon seems to have chosen the wrong spot to stop for a
brief rest. Shaking out his lightly damp feathers, the silvery-blue
fisher-bird sighing happily as he rests his weary wings. It'd be hard
for the snake to see much through the several bright-green leaves,
even along the same branch, but he should see a flash of long
tail-feathers, perhaps a long beak, but obviously some sort of bird
has landed nearby, even if there's a hint of fish too on his tongue!
20:36:15 :Snakenard starts to move in the direction of the smell, This
takes him away from the trunk of the tree and closer to the tips of
the branches. As he gets closer to a potential meal he feels the
branch he is on start to move more vigorously. It seems as if
Snakenard is even luckier than he originally thought, because the bird
has landed on the very branch that Snakenard was resting on. Snakenard
then attempts to peer at the bird, but there are still many leaves
between him and the potential meal. Snakenard continues to slither
closer towards bird.
20:42:58 Halkyon: It means that the pretty boa has a very good chance
of slithering close as the bird preens his feathers dry, unaware of
the slowly approaching scaly death. The boa will get a better look, of
a decently large bird, of scaled claws clutching the bark, of an avian
so unawares that Snakenard would be able to get nearly within just
under two-feet away from the avian. The leafy greens keep Halkyon from
seeing the looming danger, his own motions hiding the snake's slow,
quiet motions.
20:49:10 :Snakenard gets closer to the bird then he is finally able to
see that it is a nicely sized blue and white bird. Owing to
Snakenard's small size, it will take a bit of stretching, but the bird
is just under his size limit for prey. Snakenard watches carefully, as
he sizes-up his prey. The bird seams to be very busy preening himself.
Snakenard thinks to himself, "This should be an easy catch.".
Snakenard then carefully slithers up enough of is body to make a coil.
He then opens up his jaws as wide as he can. He then strikes by
hurling himself at the unwary bird.
20:55:00 :Halkyon was so enamored in his preening that he only looks
up just as the snake's mouth collides with his side! It's a confusing
jumble of scales and feathers, of flapping wings and squawking beaks!
Halkyon immediately tries to jump from the branch, struggling to evade
the terror, shifting and squirming his bulk to try and get free...if
he's caught of course! And he's definitely trying to make sure that's
not the case!
21:01:52 Snakenard: As Snakenard's gaping mouth collies with the
bird's body, his mouth springs shut like a steal trap. As it turns out
Snakenard has caught the fishy smelling bird by the wing, high up near
the bird's shoulder. he sinks in his teeth into the fleshy part of the
wing, and Snakenard can taste the bird, as it struggles frantically
within his jaws.
21:05:51 Halkyon: The snake will have to hold on tight, as the bird
falls/jumps from the branch! If the snake doesn't want to endure a
long fall, he better grab that branch with his tail! Either way, the
large bird struggles mightily, shaking his wings, flapping, pecking as
best he can at the snake's face if he has too! Anything to get away
from the scaly devil! "Leggo!" He squawks, wincing as those small
teeth grip tight, digging into his wing.
21:14:44 Snakenard: In order to brace himself against the struggling
bird Snakenard has wrapped the lower quarter of his body around the
branch he is on. That is fortunate for him because, During the course
of the struggle the tip the branch that the bird was resting of snaps
off. This leaves Snakenard hanging by half of is body lenth with a
bird in his mouth. Snakenard then shakes the unrulily bird.
21:20:47 Halkyon: Shaking might send Halkyon half rattled, but given
the snakes precarious hold on him, just on that wing, the shaking he
tries to increase! He flaps, he kicks, he squirms and bites and flaps
again, trying to work himself loose! Snakenard might feel his grip
slipping, those thick feathers making it harder and harder to hold on,
especially a bird that's on the edge of his ability. The meaty meal
would probably taste quite nice, but it's looking it might slip from
his grasp! Not surprisingly, the bird doesn't want to stay with the
snake very long!
21:23:53 :Snakenard wraps a single coil around the struggling bird and
then pulls himself back into the branch.Snakenard is starting to
anticipate the meal, his spit glands are starting to secrete saliva
21:28:56 Halkyon: The bird struggles, now that he's wrapped up in that
cool, smooth coil, it's much harder to do so! His feet and
tail-feathers, sticking out one end, twitch and flit about, while the
feathers of his breast ruffle up along Snakenard's loop of coils. He's
panting, tired from such a long day, wearing out, and now he can't
even flap his wings. Again he tries pecking, full of life, and
shuddering greatly as that saliva dribbles down his feathers.
21:35:41 Snakenard: As Snakenard starts to wrap himself around the
bird he can feel the feathers rub against his scales. The bird's
pecking has annoyed Snakenard greatly, so he places a coil around the
bird's head to limit it's movement. At this point, Snakenard has fully
engulfed the bird in coils, but he has not started squeezing, yet.
Snakenard takes a moment to notice the pounding of the birds heart
within it's chest. He also notes the bird's breathing as the bird
pants.
21:47:02 :Halkyon would be trapped, wrapped up to the extent that he
can only work his open beak and feet, tail-feathers fanned to their
widest extend and flaring madly! He squawks, every other breath a
frantic protest, the bird trying his best to shake off the unyielding
scaled prison. "Let go!" He insists again, panic in his voice, his
heart beating terrified indeed, his breath quick and near
hyperventilation (for a bird.) If the snake gets too close to that
long beak of his, he'll peck right at a glossy eye!
21:54:28 :Snakenard doesn't have to worry about the beak right now,
with the coils he previously put around the birds head, The beak is
point straight out, perpendicular to the coil of snake. The birds feet
are pointing out the outer side. Wrapped within his coils Snakenard
can feal the warmth of the birds body. Snakenard having the bird tight
in his coils releases his grip with his jaws. Snakenard says,"Ok I've
let go"
22:03:44 Halkyon: There's and edge of anger in the bird's quiet voice
as he responds, even with fear dripping through most of it. "You know
what I mean!" He stammers, clicking his beak together a moment.
"Release me! I'm not..." He pauses, cutting himself off and seeming to
not want to finish what he was about to say. Trapped as he is, he
doesn't have much of a choice!
22:07:32 Snakenard: "Your not what?", says Snakenard, "Going to be my
meal?", "I'm afraid you are going to be."
22:11:15 Halkyon: The bird dark eyes widen in terror, and what little
struggles he can accomplish begin again in earnest! "No!" He squeaks,
toes and tail-feathers twitching about, fighting for any chance to get
away! That seems to be his only protest, too baffled, shocked to think
of a better argument!
22:16:47 Snakenard: The birds struggles and kicking remind Snakenard
of all the other birds he has consumed, and it reminds him that a meal
is close at hand. Snakenard starts to press in on the bird's chest. As
he does this, he can feal the the birds heart start beating faster as
the bird goes into a panic. "By By Birdie", he says as he starts to
constrict.
22:24:36 :Halkyon's heart indeed beats fast, his breath goes quick and
shallow, and he lets out a 'hurk' as those scales suddenly clamp down,
running over his feathers, slowly crushing and squeezing his chest and
ribs together. He pants, beak gaped, his tongue poking out as he
fights for breath, struggling as best he can, fighting for that
suddenly elusive oxygen. Slowly, his nares begin to darken, his tongue
slowly turns blue, and the hunting boa will feel the bird sloooowly
start to slow his breath, his struggles, his feeble kicks. Every
moment that passes causes all to gentle, causes Halkyon's eyelids to
droop, causes his vision to begin to fade. He's trapped, with nowhere
to run, just another caught bird for the snake.
22:41:01 :Snakenard Can feel the shallow beating of the bird's heart,
and he knows the bird is not dead. The anticipation for Snakenard is
too great, he knows that the bird has stopped struggling, so he
decides to go a head and swallow the bird. He releases the bird's head
and it slumps one side. "The bird must have passed out. The first
thing to do is take care of that troublesome beak.", he thinks to
himself. Snakenard's mouth starts to water. He maneuvers untell the
beak is within the back of his throat. Next he uses his coils to
steady the bird untell the head is also inside. It takes him a moment
to get around the bird's shoulders. Sence the bird is knocked-out, the
wings fall flat against the bird's body. Progressing farther he clamps
his jaws around the birds body about halfway down the wings.
22:48:22 Halkyon: Glossy black eyes peer down the boa's warm throat,
watching as that long bill slides right in. In fact, he's certainly
not dead, he's not even passed out. He's simply too tired, too
oxygen-starved to fight the snake, too sleepy to do more than
curiously watch as he's devoured alive. It's almost clinical
detachment, watching as those teeth pass his head, watching as light
is snuffed out, and soon he's shoulder-deep in serpent. The snake will
feel him only partly stir, even as his wings slowly are stuffed into
that toothy maw. He's warm, freshly fed, so nice and delicious, and so
the living bird slips further into his predator, only a wave of his
tail-feathers indicating that he's even alive.
23:05:09 Snakenard: Snakenard's glans work overtime as they coat the
feathers in a slippery goo, that will aid the birds travels deeper
into the snake. Snakenard can taste the bird as it slides down his
throat. He can feel the wet feathers slide past his tongue. Snakenard
starts to crunch himself up over the bird. As he does he can feel that
beak that wreaked havoc with him earlier slide deeper inside him.
Snakenard's throat muscles tighten up around the bird, and as the
snake uncrunches the bird is pulled inside, untell only the legs and
tail poke out of the snake's maw.
23:31:58 Halkyon: The flighty, soft-feathered bird, so full of life
and vitality now slips into his predator with little protest. The boa
might feel that weak heartbeat, might feel the warm bird's breast
swell and contract, but it's only a formality at this point. The
avian's struggles are reduced to those shiny claws of his, having been
so busy catching fish before, now just a few swallows from
disappearing forever. Halkyon's long tail droops, fanned to extreme,
only now forced into a more streamline shape as Snakenard's lips and
snout drag over the long plumes. Even with his signs of life, his legs
hang limp to either side of the boa's lower jaws, only a few twitches
from the toes proving that he's still awake, only a few, confused,
foggy chirps from within the snake's very throat confirming that fact.
23:40:37 :Snakenard can feel the heart beat of the bird inside of him,
and he can hear some sort of sound coming from inside of him. "oh,
well",he thinks to himself. He can taste feathers and even the pond
water from the feathers. Snakenard winces as his throat muscles pull
the doomed bird in. He watches the twitching claws as they two are
pulled in. Now only the birds tail feathers remain outside the snake.
23:44:55 Halkyon: Most of Halkyon's bulk is within now, his feathers
slicked down, his body shifted to it's most aerodynamic form. It's a
curse and blessing, needing that streamline shape for flight, but it
makes it only that much easier for the pretty green snake to stuff his
mouth and jaws down the avian's body. By now, Halkyon would juuust be
waking up, disoriented, confused, chirping again as he tries to shift
about in the cool, constricting muscles around him to no avail. The
snake might notice those last tail-feathers twitch a bit more, feel
slight movement in his throat, but there's nothing that could be done
now to stop the inevitable. Halkyon's form is nice and filling,
satisfying to a great degree, and all he can do to protest is tickle
feathers along the snake's lips.
23:51:24 :Snakenard delights in the feeling of the prey shifting
inside him. He can feal the birds breathing and heartbeat, he knows
that they are only a tempery condition. As the bird's feet slide past
his tongue and into his throat he can feel a bit of kicking, but this
does not slow the progress of the bird. Snakenard pulls in the tail,
as it to slides in his throat, he stretches his jaws to align them
into there natural position
23:54:18 Halkyon: Just like that, the bird's no more. There's only a
bright-green snake sprawled along a branch, and only a tell-tale bulge
slowly sliding down his scales to ever prove that Halkyon existed. Oh
he may be still alive, may be awake and terrified, realizing in horror
where he is, alone in the dank dark with all the bodily noises about
him, but he's not really a bird any more. He's just a meal, meat, just
a pleasant, filling bulge in Snakenard's scales and nothing more than
that, just like the many other birds that have made the same final
journey.
23:58:51 :Snakenard delights in the feeling of the budge within him.
Now that the bird is just a budge, it slides down much faster. From
the outside you can see a bright green rippling snake with a budge. As
he ripples the budge goes down farther and farther down the snake's
body.
00:02:01 Halkyon: With every inch, Halkyon's chances dwindle to
nothing. From the outside, one would only see a mildly plump snake,
not knowing that within there's a caught, trapped avian inside, slowly
sliding into the beast's caustic belly. There's no chance, no
possibility of getting free, but Halkyon fights on, refusing to let
in, even though he's as good as snake chow. At least Snakenard will
have time to spit out some of the feathers that stuck to his teeth,
and enjoy the after-flavor of bird on his tongue.
00:09:27 Snakenard: As the lump enters his stomach Snakenard can feel
a delightful wiggling from within himself. It is best described as a
sort of tickly feeling deep withinside. Snakenard looks for a place to
rest and curls himself up into a ball. The effect is to close of any
passage way for air to enter his stomach. His stomach ready for a
meal, continues to produce acid.
00:12:05 Halkyon: Snakenard would feel the struggle within, feel the
living being within that bulge push and prod, even poke dangerously
with that beak, but there's no leverage, no room, and now, not even
oxygen to continue the fight. He'll hear those muffled chirps
diminish, feel that heartbeat slow, and soon, after a few minutes of
rest and enjoyment of the large meal, there's only the light gurgle of
stomach acids at work upon the unfortunate bit of cooling meat within.
The bird may lose his life, slipping away and leaving his still form,
but at least the snake gains a nice meal, and probably won't have to
hunt for some time! Nice of the bird to stuff himself with fish just
prior to sliding down his gullet!
00:18:12 :Snakenard can feel the struggling and the heartbeat of the
prey inside him. As one gets weaker so does the other. Finally the
heart stops beating, then a moment later the budge within him quivers
and stops. "There, there it's all over." He whispers as if talking to
the budge. As his digestive acids start to work on the bird it's
nutrients are absorbed into the snakes body. This gives the snake a
refreshing feeling and his hunger subsides. Tired from the work he did
in acquiring the meal, Snakenard relaxes his bundle a bit and goes to
sleep.
