I'm sure the judges don't want to hear this, but this entry was longer than I originally wanted it to be (It was supposed to be about ten pages, not including pictures, but it turned into a little over twenty). Had I not gotten Ark, a friend, as my opponent, I probably wouldn't have gone into nearly as much depth as I did with his characters, nor would I have given them as much screen time. However, since one of us is going to be knocked out this round, I felt I had to do him justice, just as I expect he felt with me.
A few notes: I got Ark's permission to use his characters the way I did for that bombshell at the end. Obviously that's not his real canon, but in a tournament, canon means nothing, as he himself acknowledged to me.
Also, Gwendolyn is my main contestant, yes, but you will notice that she does not receive a whole lot of focus this round. This was done on purpose. If I have a “main character,” it is Gertrude, not Gwendolyn, and if I advance far enough, you will see someone overtake even Gertrude (though I'm not saying who just yet). The reason for this is because Gwendolyn is a one-trick pony, and to focus on her psyche would ultimately marginalize her and make her boring. I will develop her in later rounds, especially because of the lack of “canon” in this setting, and she will play a larger and larger role in the outcome of the story, but in order to be interesting, she must be surrounded by other characters with more depth.
I also recognize that the battle between Gwendolyn and Aria was short. Although you as judges may disagree, I don't see battles as long-lasting events, as anime commonly portrays. They're often short, brutal, and anticlimactic. As such, unless basically directed to by you guys, I'm not going to make a battle scene long unless it makes sense that it would be long. That, and the entry this round was already long enough, so a drawn-out battle would just be excruciating for you guys. :P
At any rate, here's my VOCT3 first-round entry against arcanescholar. I guess if I win, I'm going to have to escalate what is already pretty epic (No, that doesn't necessarily mean longer entries), and that scares me. lol

Hehe I like the Super Smash Bros. template you did for the cover page. The story was really well executed as well. Kept me engaged and I like the characters.

Cool. Glad you caught the reference, and I'm really glad the story kept you engaged. That's the part that matters. :)
