"Once she established a stable footing on the tree branch, Olivia gazed down on the enormous plant in front of her. She was struck by the sheer size of the flower and the massive structure that supported it. The stalk was easily as thick as the diameter of an oil drum and equally huge leaves rose up from the forest floor. In the heart of the flower, unnaturally large objects grew out from the center of the plant. Olivia recognized these as the stamen and anthers, common to most flowers and used in the pollination process.

However, these were unlike any she'd seen before. Almost vine-like, many of the stamen grew out and hung down from the flower. Some reached down to the forest floor and disappeared into the darkness. Olivia pondered the biological purpose of such long stamen. It didn't make sense from the conventional understanding of pollination.

She quickly decided it was more important to get the pictures first and theorize about the plant's biology later. Snapping several shots in quick succession, her pulse quickened with the excitement of documenting this rarest of flora. With her attention focused on the flower, she failed to noticed the stamens creeping up the tree from below.

A moment later, Olivia felt something wrap around her ankle. The photographer cried out when she looked down to see something entwining around her leg. Her first thought was that it was a python and she panicked, realizing her machete was hanging out of reach. In her frantic efforts to kick her leg free of the stamen, the young woman began to lose her balance. Before she could topple off the tree, more stamen appeared and wrapped around Olivia. The stamens moved at incredible speed, immobilizing Olivia.

Oliva's mind raced realizing that she was not being attacked by a snake. As her mouth began to open to scream, a stamen wrapped around her neck, squeezing with tremendous pressure. As she struggled to breathe and pull the stamen from her neck, she felt her body being lifted into the air and towards the flower."

----------------------------------

Things quickly go bad for Olivia Gerrard, the young photographer on an expedition to photograph an extraordinary plant.

Ok, so this flower might have been crossbred with a tentacle monster. Who knows what mysterious organisms remain undiscovered deep in the heart of the rain forest!

What will happen to this young woman who only desired to document a rare moment for science?

Stay tuned for the next episode of 'Flower'!

Oh come on! =(
*Sighs* Aw man... like you said D.W., all she was trying to do was take the plant’s picture.

Great story D.W., keep it coming. =D

Oops! Looks the observer of nature has become an unwilling participant! You portray her astonishment and shock very well, and the plant is very efficient and removing indigestible inessentials from its prey, to get at the protein beneath.
