Jer and Chestnut 3
Jer and Chestnut were
great friends, and Chestnut always protected Jer as he promised.
Sometimes Jer wished
there was something he could do to help Chestnut. After all, the owl
not only spared his life, he actually watched over him every moment
of the day to make sure he was safe. What could Jer give? He was
only a mouse. Even so, Jer still wanted to help Chestnut, even if it
was something small.
One day Jer's which
came true. Chestnut was resting in a tree, watching Jer, whe

Jer scurried across the
forest floor, often stopping to look in the trees.
He knew Chestnut was
watching him. He could feel the predator's eyes on him at all times.
As a mouse Jer had
developed what may be called a sixth sense. This sense was sort of an
perception Jer had that allowed him to 'see' what is looking at him.
Unfortunately this only helped Jer know something nearby was watching
him, but it did not identify precisely what was stalking him. It

Jer's
misstep
in
the dark night, Jer ran fearfully along the forest floor.
Jer
is a mouse, so he has to be careful to avoid everything from cats to
bats.
After
some scurrying he accidentally took a misstep and fell over a loose
root.
I
hope nothing saw me Jer thought.
Unfortunately
for Jer, his mistake did not go unnoticed and he was spotted.
He
looked up to see an owl coming down at him at a high speed. This was
what he was afraid of his whole life,so he froze in fear. The owl
