And given the world location, elfs are a likely choice, but I'll give a +1 for the famous dancing troll village, as you can't get anymore lost than that. :P

Since the only 'quests' mentioned are what are happening, I will give an actual quest.

Client: Chef
Quest: To gather ingredients for a banquet he was hired by nobles to serve. They must be a meat, a vegetable, a fish, and a fruit.
Quest Reward: Based on quality of ingredients, with weight to the meat and fish.
For low quality meat and fish, a few coin.
For medium (average) quality meat and fish, a small bag of coin.
For high quality meat and fish, a large bag of coin.
For living meat and fish (say a gnome and a mermaid), a large bag of coin, and special equipment of a chef uniform, a set of high quality, but unenchanted, chef knives (Masterwork quality in D&D terms. The blades would include a dagger (chef knife), a miniature rapier (fillet knife), and a hand axe (the butcher's knife)).

For low quality fruit and veggies, no bonuses.
For average quality fruit and veggies, a few bonus coins.
For high quality fruit and veggies, more than a few bonus coins.
For a living, captured dryad, significant bonus coins and bonus EXP.


As for the town, I would like to suggest a town of, and I know this is an odd suggestion, half elf half dwarf hybrids. As in, they are both elven and dwarven in nature. So, strength, stability, and a bit of the bulk of the dwarf. The grace, elegance, and more of the height of the elf. The men would have the possibility of glorious beards.

Or halflings or gnomes.
