"No matter what, you should never expect to get anywhere as an intern. Playing by the rules and obeying your superiors isn't a guaranteed rise in position. You might never get above your pay grade, and termination is always a threat. But the workplace always has a way of re-distributing resources if needed. If nothing else, your departure from the company will be pleasant. Perhaps not pleasant. Short. Regardless, try to enjoy your time as much as you can, and remember that this company takes care of its own."

The speech from the initiation meeting might not have the same impact after one has been working in a company for a while, but every so often it's good to revisit those words and remember how excited you were to get started. How your promotion seemed imminent. How, at the end of it all, you'd still be "moving up" in some regard. Or, well. Being redistributed probably isn't too bad, either.
