In this piece, I wanted to capture the quiet loneliness of the misty, northern seas.

I mostly wanted to draw a big red bum, though.

She's got quite the... intriguing look, I can definitely say I've never seen it before x3

Design-wise it would've been better to have the seal part start further up, but for that pose I though it would've been better to have more human skin.

The logical designs we have to sacrifice to make things sexier. You got the big red bum thing going on though, so totally worth it!

I agree, it's a bit confusing when you first look at it but seal girls are not something I've seen before so originality is definitely a consideration :3

In the realm of mythical sea creatures, it's not all that preposterous. Have fish, half shark, half dolphin, why not half seal?

Big red bums don't need an excuse to be drawn!

I like the "caught by surprise" glance off-screen. It makes the scenario feel really natural.

Also her design is interesting. I have a Leopard seal mermaid myself and its fun to find situations for them~

One of the advantages of seal-based mermaids over fish-based mermaids is body heat. I really like how it's implied that they're warm in every environment they're in, while a classic mermaid would technically be the same temperature as the water around her. That's really oddly specific, though. :P
