Shaun felt the talons first. There was no noise, no swoosh of wings, not even a movement out of the corner of his eye. The rat morph had been making his way home after a long day of work. As one of the few morphs in his clan, it fell to him to use is unique body to provide for his feral brothers, sisters and assorted family. His larger body could do the work of a hundred of his smaller kin, whether by digger a new burrow, planting crops, foraging for food to feed the whole clan.

His body also made him vulnerable. After all, there was no where for him to hide.

Shaun turned his head slowly, carefully, to see the barn owl perched on his shoulder, a rat tail dangling from it's beak. Icy terror filled his veins as the owl casually slurped up the remaining inch of a member of his lesser kin. Though it was horrible every time he lost a member of his clan, he was numb to watching it happen, powerless to stop it. No, his terror stemmed from the hungry, expectant gaze that now turned on him.

After all, everyone knew that owls eat rats.

——
This is Shaun, a rat as seen here. He lives in a world where animals are randomly born either anthro, like he is, or feral. Anthro's normally care for the ferals of their family or keep unrelated ferals as pets. That said, the food chain is still strictly enforced, and Shaun, as a rat, would make a tasty morsel for any number of wild animals.

May I suggest adding the "Small pred" and "Smaller pred" tags?
