Christmas has come and gone, and we can't just have a workshop full of Christmas elves dicking around until next December, so Fooma decided he'd help out and put those elves to good use. Dont' worry, they'll have replacements by next year.

Little known fact, this sort of thing happens every year. Santa either hires on a predator or finds one to volunteer, feeds them to the reindeer, or just throws them into the cookie baker.

Keeps the elf population down and ups the mystique of his workshop to the elves.
