With the white light at the end of the tunnel comes the arrival of the spirit guide: the kitsune. These servants of an unknown hand are charged with shepherding the souls of the deceased to where they can be put to more use. In the case of most, the kitsune lead them to the well of souls, where their spirit-matter may be recycled into new life; however, those souls deemed too corrupt to be remade are disposed of, sent to a place unknown to all save for the kitsune themselves. Indeed, very little is known about the kitsune and what they represent, as most spirit guides keep to themselves, going about their duties with quiet dignity.

Naomi is not like most.

Though they are a familiar face in many of Imperium's warmer and seedier locales, the wise known to be wary of Naomi's presence, for although the kitsune is sworn to assist the worthy once their spirit has left their body, they have no responsibility toward the body while it continues to live, and many can only speculate as to just how one who comes from a world of spirits remains so full-figured in their corporeal form...
