Dia is but a fragment of a much larger and more powerful entity, and her body is merely an avatar through which this ancient primordial entity may perceive things on the level of mortals. She exists to travel on this much smaller scale and learn of these tiny flesh things that have come to inhabit countless worlds between the stars. She used one such flesh creature as a template for her avatar, giving her the appearance of a fennec fox, if somewhat unusually coloured.

Naturally, the mouse doesn't know any of this. He simply sees a potentially hungry predator, rather than the god fragment exercising a childlike curiosity.
