You know, it's funny, I only recently found myself wondering why the wolf DIDN'T just eat her at the first meeting and instead tried a more contrived and circuitous plan like filling up on Granny first.

Yes, but only slightly.
In the original story of little red riding hood, the story end with the wolf eating little red riding hood.
