Art by Shadowraiser over on FA and Weasyl!
Quoth Cawsworth (originally just Quoth) is the fourth of my old permavore characters from Tapestries, which means we're temporarily skipping one because the artist didn't make the deadline, but we'll come back to number three before too long. For more info on these characters and why I'm bringing them back, see the first one: https://aryion.com/g4/view/340036
Quoth was the first male character, and the first non-mammal. He lasted a very long time compared to the others, which at the time I chalked up to his being male and feathery, but looking back at him, my description of him wasn't very well-written and I feel like he didn't have much personality compared to the previous ones. I don't even remember the circumstances under which he finally got gulped, just that at some point he got unbirthed and regressed into a monitor reptile (because that's totally how evolution works, right?), after which he picked up the habit of becoming a predator now and then, sometimes even daring others to eat or be eaten- it rather amused him, once he had struggling prey in his belly, to think of how easily the roles could have been reversed, if only his meal hadn't been so timid. In that sense, I guess he was also the first one to be a switch rather than true prey or pred.
Still a bit awkward to this day, his look didn't turn out quite like I'd hoped in the art, but he still ended up a handsome bird, at least, if not as elegant and obviously raven-like as I imagined. I've re-imagined the new version of him as a British gentleman, full of grace and charm, and hopefully he'll be a little more interesting and fun to play this time around.
