How I imagine it working is its a pulse of extreme magical energy, sort of like the ark or the covenant, but not controlled, like a magic nuke. Earth ponies and pegasus are not effected because they just take it as a wave, the magical energy hitting their bodys evenly and not causing any real lasting effect (except for mabe an increased cancer risk). But unicorns and by extention alicorns are negatively effected, with their horns act as lightning rods, were the magic is concentrated in their head, causing acute cranial explosions, as the energy acts sort of like water vapour in pop corn.



Now the real question is why would an civilisation of unicorns make such a weapon, that in all intents and purposes would only effect magic users,something that if they ever used would destroy them entirely, the answers will be given in a later chapter.

My inspiration for it btw, was a combination of the halo, raiders of the last ark, and a couple of things from the war-hammer 40k universe.

Something i wanted to establish early on is that Ratway has seen some shit, but because he was raised in it he sees it as normal, being completely desensitised to it, as he is from a lower working class background, from an extremely rough area, so he has basically lived his whole life being told he was expendable.

Twilight in comparison, and by extension her friends, live relatively sheltered lives,filled with validation. When twilight lights up her horn she expects everyone to think it is just a normal harmless spell, but when Ratway sees this he will have a totally different reaction. This is because as there is something he hasn't mentioned yet, that makes him extremely paranoid about unicorns casting spells close to him, and from his experiences he has good reason to have that distrust.

I am glad your enjoying this so far, as people commenting telling me they are enjoying it tells me i an semi competent at writing and gives me reason to improve.

I will be supplementing this main body of work, with side story's, that will give you perspective from outside the main circle of characters, as some of the stuff they get up to is pretty hardcore, the next piece i submit is going to be one of these, and its going to be pretty brutal.

Not sure of Twilight having the same consequence due to being an alicorn. She did absorb all three of the other alicorns power in her own body during the fight against tirek. 50 mile radius seems much too, perhaps its just the stallions random guess since he couldnt really travel 50 miles seeing exploded pony head bodies.

And welcome, have fun with writing it. Perhaps when its done, compile it for fimfic.

you nailed it, it is a random guess, in actuality its comparable to about 5 km radius, but with an alicorn using it the range probably increases , due to the power levels. Honestly Ratway hasnt got a clue about its range, he just knows if Twilight activates it, he's still stuck here, so pulls a number out of his ass to deter her from trying again, sort of like when a parent tells a child an exaggerated truth to stop nuisance behaviour, 50 miles is a lot more scary then 4 after all.

In regards to absorbing the magic maybe an alicorn would be capable of it, maybe not, but if i was in the stallions position i wouldn't risk the chance, you would just say something to stop your meal ticket possibly committing accidental suicide. In the future though the weapon will make a return and this question will be answered.

The episode were she absorbed the other 3 princesses magic was more like a controlled transfer, this works more inline with a uncontrolled fission reaction. so if you knew it was going to happen, and you were powerful enough, maybe you could stop it, but if you dont expect it your going to end up like that guy in scanners.

I am currently uploading this simultaneously on fimfiction, its under the title the forgotten one, just like this folder. but you wont miss anything if you only follow me here, as content will be the same on both sites.

Currently i am working on a side story that is happening at the same time over in Canterlot. its not really related to the main story yet, but a bit down the line they are going to overlap, and i want this character to be established before i get to that part, its going to be a vore story and it should be done in the next couple of days.
