Very derivative character descriptions were spaced throughout but I tried a slightly different relationship dynamic for this submission. I'm still learning how to write a compelling narrative and convincing characters (and mediocre dialogue).

Entertaining and well written story, though the idea of elves eating smaller sapient beings seemed to violate the mainstream notion we have of these civilized humanlike creatures just as the notion of humans swallowing essentially smaller humans would be. The other thing that seemed odd that this is a modern civilized world with universities and cell phones yet there are apparently no laws about eating fellow sapient citizens that just happen to be smaller? Was a law being broken by Devan imprisoning and devouring citizens of smaller size as it would in any advanced civilization in our world? It might make more sense if something had been said that this world is essentially ruled by the all-powerful much larger dragons, but being a thousand years more advanced than the more familiar medievalesque setting we normally see these creatures in, the dragons try to maintain an aura of civilization and allow fellow sapient beings to attend universities, have businesses, etc. though everyone of all races understand the dragons are still on the top of the food chain, though they are instructed from childhood to be moderate and unobtrusive in their predation. It would have been useful to the reader to know how some fairies end up being dragon food and others do not. Perhaps they are criminals or vagrants, or simply unlucky enough to be caught and secretly sold to dragons in a kind of black market underworld designed to cater to their carnivorous appetites. Thanks for sharing!
