"As you look up at the night sky, you see beautiful ribbons of light being emitted from the moon. The beauty of this scene however is polluted by a strange black fluid on the window. The fluid met with the ground and all the way to a pale woman's feet, kind of seeping from her body.. giving her somewhat of a monsterous appearance until it moved up to her body and disappeared into the wound on her neck. The loud sound of a stomach finishing off its meal echoed around the room as her tightly cloth bound body looked as though it was trying to break free of what articles of clothing she was wearing. This woman. The outfit she's in, doesn't seem to be hers."
This page features the first real RNG roll as I actually couldn't decide on what I wanted to happen. I will do this for any point where I can't immediately make a decision, for stats, if the difference isn't too massive to where I shouldn't even bother rolling. For things like very different branching paths that I never thought about that would change entire aspects of events, or just two very different outcomes.. I will also apply rolls. I am.. probably not ready for the comments relating to this.
Finally, kind of a disclaimer? The character introduced in this page will probably go through several designs. She definitely isn't wearing her usual clothes, her appearance actually crept up on me and I was.. not prepared to deal with it. For now, try to deal with her general looks.

"A simple courier run"
A group of researchers have set themselves up in some ruins of which the full trip there and back would take nearly two days from the town you are in on foot. They seem to be in constant need for supplies, but it seems like none of the locals are too excited to take up this mantle. However, apparently they have something to do with the earring you found clipped to that Ravenous wolf's ear, so it might be worth checking it out. You should meet up with the mechanic who lives in the town to see what this is about.
"The sword's Trial I"
There's a nearby ruin called a dungeon where you can undertake something called a Trial in order to upgrade the Old One's sword in a meaningful way, it's likely to be fairly difficult and seeing as you have no idea what will happen, it is also going to be fairly hard to prepare for this as well. Strangely, you feel as though you won't be able to bring anyone along for this one.
"Thy dear Lunatics"
It seems as though there is a problem with the nearby Fairy village that is bad enough to send a small group to look for help. The problem is getting there seeing as the forest is enchanted to purposefully get people lost through illusions and trickery and is filled with dangers such as feral fairies. Perhaps if I walk around town enough, I'll bump into the member of the group looking for a particular person to help out. You feel as though you don't want to run into them at night, however.
"Bandit curiosity"
About a month ago, some bandits appeared in the local area and have been kidnapping anyone that hasn't drawn blood from one of their group. But for some reason they haven't killed, tarnished or sold off as merchandise but instead have simply been holding them hostage in order to trade with the town. It's doubtful that the town would stop negotiations, so there isn't really a time limit. You feel as though killing any bandits, or carrying around a "Hunt x amount of Bandits" bounty from the local Adventurer guild would be a terrible idea.

Look right at the zombie, and deadpan. "So.... is this normal? i mean, i've only experienced a single day so far... i'm not sure if you're just a moon fairy come through the pretty colors past the window or something. Zombie, psychopath, heck you could call yourself a diety and i couldn't prove you wrong. Don't know why a zombie would want someone like me though, you at least remember what happened before you died."

ha.. that's one way to react.

Yep, sad about no cute kobold cuddles or lewds or using them as a offering to appease the zombie necromancer.
What made this decision difficult for you if you if you don't mind me asking?
There is no point in lying, I was looking forward to it apparent possible consequences or not.
Note to self, put everything in charisma.
I'm trying to not be disrespectful I hope this isn't coming across that way, I know it's ultimately your choice.
Maybe I'm just focusing on this too much to suggest other than 'lay there and wait' or 'yell for the kobolds' as they're technically not guards.
Wiggle in our binds a little and try again to either slip out of them or break them with pure strength.

"There is no point in lying" I just realised after I posted but this refers to me not you. As in there is no point in me lying. God I'm a dumbass.

"THERE IS NO POINT IN LYING. I ALREADY KNOW ALL OF YOUR SECRETS" :v

So to start: She is completely unarmed and has purposefully left you not only with both the Old one's sword & the sharpened dagger.. but also the cloth binding you to the bed is fragile and very easy to rip. All she is doing is sitting there and watching you during this conversation.
This is also the first time Lyra's actually been alone since arriving in town.. so she'd likely leave if someone attempted to come in.
As for what would happen, as sorta stated above.. If Lyra had company in her room, be it another party member or one of the Kobolds, this character would not show up. That's why the decision was tough. Also, please don't dump everything into Charisma, at the moment Charisma is mostly used to determine the success of dumb decisions. Sure there's lying and recognising lies, but there are ways to get around stats. (Plus other TFs will have different charisma stats.)

Ah, a decision between cuteness or story. I guess it was up to chance. And I do have to say just because she left us our weapons and didn't bother to try tie us down with anything stronger that doesn't really mean we'd be comfortable with it enough to not want to get farther away from her as she is creepy and pretty damn scary.
The dumping everything into charisma was a joke, maybe putting a few points into it would be good depending on how much we stick around town but we're not a bard.
Well on the bright side we probably won't want to sleep alone if we can help it, so if we get away or wake up or break whatever vision this is and it's still the middle of the night we can go crawl into one of the kobolds beds. For safety reasons of course.
Posted by AwokenedWispKP 6 years ago Report
It's not that she didn't bother, she supposedly does this every time. Call it the world's dumbest personality test.
But yeah, I can kinda see what you mean. She went into your room while you slept and tied you up, has weird monster powers or some shit and just sat there watching you while you slept. (Note that Lyra fell asleep late afternoon.)

So the necromancer waited until we were alone to make herself known, and to an outsider no less? Interesting... Well, as she said, she's using most of her power to keep herself held together, so perhaps she's weak enough as not to survive a direct confrontation with anyone else?
Posted by AwokenedWispKP 6 years ago Report
She presumably still has enough power to mug someone and steal their clothes. :V

weird. i only sent it once. lag or something.
Posted by Graywolf18 6 years ago Report
Be amiable. Besides tying us the the bed post she hasn't done anything overly aggressive. Talk to her for a few minutes then start to untie the binding. If she gets uppity just say it's uncomfortable and continue. No displays of aggression, I fully believe she was telling the truth about "teaching us a lesson" if we start swinging at her. Ask why she took an interest in us. (at a later point in the conversation, before she leaves) we should ask her if she'd like to be our adventuring buddy. If this confuses her "I don't really know anyone... or anything beyond a day ago, so I'm looking for friends! <3" or something like that.
OH! And if the innkeeper or a Kobold knock on our door asking about noises/voices we should tell them "everything's okay, we're just talking to ourselves to help organize our priorities for tomorrow to help us sleep." Don't want them popping in and getting hurt or nothin'.
Meta-gaming tho, I'm wondering why she'd use her own magic to keep herself fresh instead of force someone into giving her a true resurrection. :/
Posted by Kartomic 6 years ago Report
Totally agree with you about trying to befriend her and keeping anyone else from entering the room, as that may be a way to score brownie points with her! As for why she wouldn't try a true resurrection, perhaps it's too expensive or difficult to do? We know the adventurer's guild hands them out, but from the info the blacksmith gave us, that's more of a burden than anything. Besides, there are other ways someone like her can keep living without being resurrected, which might be why she's talking to us. Hallowing, if I recall correctly, has something to do with being empty inside? Maybe she wants to fill that void or something?
Or perhaps I'm overthinking this.
Posted by Graywolf18 6 years ago Report
I wasn't saying to ask all friendly like for a Res. She kind of comes off as a liiitle evil so kidnapping a noblemans child and extorting them for the resurrection in exchange for their safe return... that's what I meant.
Although... I guess I'M the villain here for thinking this up. :/
Posted by Kartomic 6 years ago Report
I mean yeah, she's probably evil, but we don't quite know how evil she is yet. Maybe kidnapping is too far for her?
Posted by AwokenedWispKP 6 years ago Report
I can't tell you guys why, but this little skit/conversation between the two of ya made me laugh a bit.
Posted by Graywolf18 6 years ago Report
Good, intentional or not it always makes me feel better knowing I made someone laugh. :)
Posted by JScofi 6 years ago Report
I also considered asking why she didn't just ressurect with one of the obvious systems in place, but one of the -very few- things we've learned about this world, is that comes with a price, which isn't always money. So it could be worse than memories.
Posted by JScofi 6 years ago Report
just for example, perhaps a year of your lifespan is taken for a ressurection, leading to a state where you are immortal, x number of times, and that's it.
Posted by AwokenedWispKP 6 years ago Report
That's actually pretty good of a deduction, yes, a LOT of the Deities resurrect with fairly hefty costs. Of course, some also have fairly humorous costs due to the deity being.. "whimsical"? But they'll never revive mortals for free.
There are other methods of "revival", but they aren't exactly True revival. The closest anyone has gotten are researching past technology, such as the Relics, however their method still costs experience and the person being revived comes back in a weakened state that lasts a period of time.
Posted by Kartomic 6 years ago Report
Plus, I dunno if any of the deities regard necromancers favorably, which is likely why our creepy new friend hasn't tried resurrection at a shrine yet?
Posted by Kartomic 6 years ago Report
Aww, poor kobolds got in trouble for their libido; if they'd just waited, Lyra probably would've picked a few of them to snuggle with. Oh well, maybe one day...
Right, now to address the necromancer in the room. Firstly, good job keeping calm, Lyra! If this necromancer wanted to hurt us, she probably would've by now, which means that she probably wants to parlay with us about something. Then, ask her if it's okay to unbind your hand so you can sit up and speak to her; even if we did attack her, she has the advantage, so unless she likes seeing us tied up, there's no reason to stay bound. Talk with her and see what she wants, trying to remain friendly while doing so. Ideally, we want to stay on this scary lady's good side!
Took me a bit to notice the part where she said how she got her head cut off. You'd think after that, she wouldn't play this kind of 'game' anymore... then again, she did admit to being a little crazy in the head.

Oof.. I really should've gone to sleep instead of looking at comments, I'm really, really having to think about my replies. =//=
Posted by Kartomic 6 years ago Report
It may be easier to say nothing; I don't want to stress you out. D:
Posted by AwokenedWispKP 6 years ago Report
It's not really stressing out, it's mostly just that I have to change up my comments from randomly being helpful in between my reactions.. generally by mentioning something that was on the page that someone didn't pick up on. To sorta really watching what I say, even when explaining a mechanic, to avoid accidentally give unintentional hints & help. Even if the part I'm replying to is entirely unrelated to the page. :v

ask here what is going on and why me
Posted by AnominableBreadman 6 years ago Report
Hang on, what she is saying doesn't add up to me. No zombie, let alone one that use to be a necromancer that can no longer use said powers, should be able to control that black stuff like that. Plus this sense of unease that Lyra felt from this woman. I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that she is a lot more than what she is letting on, I'd suggest NOT angering her and just play along for the time being, don't say something that will set her off.
Posted by jjlava 6 years ago Report
She still has her necromancy powers she's just using all of it making sure she doesn't start rotting. A fairly understandable thing to not want to happen. In another sense she's basically a failed lich barely holding herself together.
Posted by Kartomic 6 years ago Report
"...as her tightly cloth bound body looked as though it was trying to break free of what articles of clothing she was wearing. This woman. The outfit she's in, doesn't seem to be hers."
This line in the description makes me think that this necromancer sewed her head back onto someone else's body, and now that body is trying to fight her in some way. Or, I could be misreading this.
