Return of Singularity Jain - Chapter 1
“You're late, Miss Jessica Cruz.” the blue guardian said, tiny blue arms crossed behind his back as he looked with a stern expression at Earth Lantern Jessica. “Most of the others have already gone off with their new support. You should know how important it is to be tutoring another to help defend the galaxy.” Jessica nod and apologized again. “Forgive me, guardian. I have been struggling with night terrors again.” the Guardian nodded. “perhaps you could use a night light then. Or at least try to to spend too much time awake before you sleep.” The guardian was clearly trying to help her mood, but the point had been made. “I shall do my best not to disappoint you.” the Guardian nodded and flew with Jessica over to where her link partner was waiting.
“Linking is a newer tactic of the green lanterns arsenal. The idea is that in times of crisis, it is better to make a singular, combined attack or construct. However there is a secondary requirement as well. To ensure that each linked ring does not counteract its partner's wishes, both lanterns must share some of their experiences.” the Guardian was speaking with the trainees while jessica hovered nearby. A mixture of emotions was on their faces. Boredum. Excitement. Overconfidence. Frustration. Even the occasion moment of nervousness. Jessica could relate. It helped she was tutored by some of the greatest lanterns. She with her more messy bed hair crumbs stubbornly refusing to leave her mouths corners was decidedly less impressive. The guardian pulled out 2 dummy rings. “By linking the ring like so...” The rings were pressed together tip to tip, until a green lightning arc was drawn between them, the Guardian smiled “at which point you should be linked and each of your memories shared. While you're perfectly free to choose what memories you share, it is a good idea to be open with your partner. Miss Cruz?” Jessica nodded and scanned the crowd. A good student to demonstrate the link. Hopefully one whose personality fitted hers. Silently she observed individual details, removing the bug like monster from the equation immediately. After a minute of her searching, she settled on a nice looking girl with blueish grey skin, black hair and considerably strong body posture. “you name, trainee?” “Sekelia, Miss Cruz.” “could you come up for me please?” Sekelia rose into the air and looked at Cruz. She was definitely talk. Her build making Cruz feel small by comparison. “present your rings.” the rings touched. “state your oath.” the feeling of static built between the rings. “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight,” the feeling of pressure built as the pair sifted through the others memories. “let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, green lanterns light.” the rings parted as the pair looked at each other. The green lightning arch lingered between them for a moment. “very well done.” the Guardian clapping his hands together. Jessica was still trying to process what she had seen. Only women and rarely a man if ever. Likewise Sekelia was stunned trying to process Jessica's memories. “now once you trainees are done finding your link partners, it's time for your first mission.”
Sekelia arrived back at her apartment late. Her mother and sister was back on Malthus, while she had been busy with stopping various crimes around the galaxy. It was not easy for her but she would admit that Jessica did try to manage them well enough. Even though she was female, she couldn't help but envy Jessica for her freedom. Malthusians like her were forbidden from breeding due to their world's overpopulation, yet she saw vivid flashes of sensual acts done near casually. Reminded her of the time when...no it was nothing. She was a lantern now. A servant of the galactic good. As she settled down to rest, her mind went back again to that day. Why that day. She had not shown it to Jessica but… why should it matter. Why matter that she... “Killed all those people?” the voice snapped her awake. She looked around, ring primed. Ready to go. “who is there? Show yourself.” the voice continued. “you served your world well. If you could not lower the population, then the strict laws of your planet would come into effect again.” “shut it. Who are you?” Sekelia blasted a portion of her room, the green beam puncturing a wall. “a lawyer. Willing to help my clients with their problems. of course that little detail was covered up. You are not the only one who has been keeping little secrets.” Sekelia turned around and around becoming more frantic. “I can help you. I will keep your secret. make sure the guardians and the lanterns never find out that little bit of detail from your past. You just need to do one thing for me.” Sekelia wanted to refuse, wanted to reject whatever this voice was offering...but she couldn't deny it. Her mind wandered back to that day. She was in her gear again, a sharpened blade in hand looking at a warehouse full of people. They had all been gathered together for this, her comrades has seen to that. This was the right thing to do, even as she looked at a young man she would have gladly dated if she was not bound to her mission. So she turned out the lights, and went to work.
The apartment was dark. A break in the wall from the blast of a hardlight construct. The alien lawyer stretched and breathed out a sigh of enjoyment. “another satisfying client. I have missed those.” She parted her stomach as she felt the young trainee lantern circle the drain. She would keep her in that moment as long as she could, savouring that perfect singularity of despair. Now with her latest client tucked away, she shifted her form once more. “no to worry my dear. I am true to my word. Once I am done...there will be no chance of the lanterns ever finding out what you did.” She felt an odd pressure build up inside her. With a light belch, a green ring and a set of clothes emerged. Sliding the ring on her finger, she chuckled. “Well this completes the attire. Now I can blend in and get nice and close to my last client.” Her chuckle became a laugh, as she folded space around her, removing the damage that Sekelia had caused. She didn't want to give the Earthborn lantern any clues that could help them find her. When the time was right...She would come to her. Using a little of the rings power she constructed a green aura about herself and would wait for the first alert. She licked her lips thinking on her revenge, a long time coming in her mind, but patience would pay out in the long run. “Lanterns. we have situation at sector 3461 in the Hassla system. Lanterns Sekelia and Xaradoor. A fanatical religious terrorist group has been sighted preparing some form of sabotage on Hassala Beta. Converge and deal with the threat.” an appetizer before the main course. And a good bit of dinner theater. The lanterns were practically giving her a free meal. She brought the ring close to her face. “No problem, control. Relay for Xaradoor to meet on planet. And tell him to bring an extra lantern battery. I have yet to have mine and I want to avoid any mess ups.” the comms acknowledged the request, as Singularity Jain used her power to take her there. This was going to be a good feast...
