Ms. Verde sat in her office, a pencil tucked behind her ear and a few empty cans of energy drink around her. She yawned, stretching and cracking her neck. Her new assistant walked in carrying papers and results from some of the recent experiments.

Ms. Verde turned to the man. “How’s it going with the V-4 experiments?” she asked.

“Android V-4 has consumed all the viable subjects, Ms. Verde. “She seems content for now.”

Ms. Verde smiled. “We need to know V-4’s limits. We don’t stand a chance against Gilly and the others without her.” She pulled open a draw next to her. Sitting inside were people she had shrunk down and saved for a snack later. She pulled a person up, licked her lips, and dropped them into her gaping mouth. She let the small woman squirm in her mouth before swallowing her with a big gulp.

“Ms. Verde... do you mind if I ask what happened to your last assistants?” her assistant asked, watching as another shrunken person was swallowed.

“Well, the first one turned into a goo lady. The second one didn’t perform adequatelay so they were... let go. And the last one quit.”

“Quit? Why would you quit working for the brightest mind of our generation?”

Ms. Verde shrugged, swallowing one more person and closing her drawer. “Decided he’d rather work on other tech. I don’t dwell.”
