I like to think that even though to each new self coming back from death feels just like waking up from nap, since they have all the memories copy-pasted in their brains, that to his current self this is it, he is fading into oblivion each time, it won't ever get old no matter how many times he does it, and each iteration of him wants to give themselves up to live that thrill again.
I bet it feels funny saying "I'll see you later" knowing that he won't really, that it will be a new him that will take his place.

Yeah! One of the coolest ideas about regeneration to me (besides the fact that you can make things happen more than once and it fun to see how that might influence how the characters react) is the idea that it is still technically death- that body is gone to them forever, and a new one has to be created.

Same memories, sure, but a body that lived however long is gone and the next one might not make it too long either, since every one likes the feeling of getting slowly turned to mush in the belly of someone he likes. And hey, it’s canon Ryou likes morbid stuff based on his deck and the ‘haha Mai’s gonna be in a coma forever’ joke from the manga, so I say it fits him perfectly.

And that's the fun part! Even though the current one feels like he woke up from it each time and that he had a full life behind him, it's just memories inserted by default in his brain, he's a newborn each time, the ones that become mush don't get to wake up and go on with life. I'm imagining Ryou massaging Mariku's belly and feeling his previous self through his skin, getting all sorts of thrills and funny feelings as the body further dissolves and his hour draws nearer as it makes the space available for him to have the same fate and for the next Ryou to feel his lifeless body up the same way.
