Through some weird series of discussions, this idea sprouted. Enjoy.

Below is a short story written by  OneGoodDeed

Explosions and weapons-fire had long since faded into a dull rumble that almost seemed to follow them so deep beneath the surface. The creatures from the stars, the “Survivors” had taken so many lives and destroyed so much more as they sought the accursed technology that littered their once pristine world. Deep into the caves, long miles down where even the cursed teleporters couldn’t reach was their only option. A single Elder Lemurian, elevated to the rank of queen ushered her smaller companions to follow her deep into the dark safety of the caverns. Hundreds had followed the young queen as she followed the paths taught to her by the teaching songs of her mothers, but now less than half that number remained. Many had fallen to their wounds or from exhaustion until only a handful remained so close to their sanctuary.

In desperation, and as an act of mercy, the queen took many of her Lemurians, those to weak or wounded to make the journey, into herself and carried them within her womb, just as a mother would an unborn child. She felt it was only fitting that she, as a queen, should aid her people as best as she could. Though the strain of carrying their weight and mending their wounds took a great toll on her body, she knew it was their only chance for survival.

Those that could still walk followed along beside her, exchanging worried looks as they watched their new queen struggle under her burden. They all wished they could help her in her duty, but none had the strength to do so. The strain of carrying a dozen Lemurians slowed their progress greatly, yet her will was resolute that she would not lose anymore of her new children. She couldn’t, she wouldn’t, not when they were so close.
After many days in the dark, the narrow tunnel opened up ahead and she smiled in soft relief at the gentle glow that flowed from there. If the songs were true, then they had finally reached the safety of their new home.

“…and so they hid below, where the terrors would never find them...”

Those "survivors" kind of sound like humans
