I'm guessing Conall has a lot of pride in his strength as predator and a wolf. To be defeated twice on his quest for adult hood can't be doing much for his confidence.
Once by a gorilla was bad enough. Then to be defeated by a prey animal, and a rabbit no less that obviously stronger than him, must have done a real number to his pride as a predator.
