The Magna Myriada Koritsi is a rare, dangerous but fascinating creature; Commonly referred to as the "Bug girl" or "Insect Girl" among other things, they are born deep underground. They are born from small eggs laid by the mother; She can lay anywhere from 1000 to 5000 tiny eggs. Each egg is only an inch long. After an incubation period of 6 months, they hatch and they immediately leave on their own; Cannibalism is not uncommon among them and the mother is particularly hungry after laying and protecting her eggs.
They are born blind; After all, they spend most of their lives underground and when they do emerge above ground, it is usually at night. They have little use for sight and they rely on many other senses such as smell, and vibrations; The antenna on their heads are particularly good at detecting minute details. They are accurate from upto a mile away and can tell various things, from the location of other living beings, to their number, to even how much of a threat they pose. To this end, they shed their antenna every few years to renew the cells within them and ensure that they never go due.
They are accomplished diggers; A full grown Koritsi can burrow over a mile's worth of tunnels in a day, but little ones have a little more trouble. They are inexperienced and many of them die in cave-ins. The exact number is uncertain, but it is presumed that 25% of all new-born Koritsi will die this way. A further 20% die from starvation; Koritsi are entirely carnivorous, but as young ones, they cannot hunt anything beyond a few specific and harmless insects like Earthworms or Flies. A very selective diet which further whittles their number. If pushed to the brink, they may attempt to go after more dangerous insects like Ants, but rarely do they survive the attempt. Around 20% die this way and an additional 15% die from miscellaneous reasons.
However, if a new born Koritsi can survive for a few months on this restrictive diet, they mature quickly; Their exoskeleton hardens and takes on its distinctive rust-coloured hue providing a large degree of protection from cave-ins and other predators. They grow large fast; They double their size ever month. After four months, they are no longer threatened by most large insects. After five months, their diet begins to include other small animals like rabbits, dogs, cats and snakes. By the end of the sixth month, they are near full-grown and their diet grows to include humans, but they are not large eaters and their meals are relatively infrequent.
They become truly dangerous when mating season arrives; The females outnumber the males of the species around 10-to-1 and are capable of self-reproduction. Doing so requires a great deal of energy and they go after and devour as many prey as they can find; Humans are particularly coveted by the Koritsi at this time. Many are devoured right away but few are kept away for future consumption; bound in thick webbing from the Koritsi's spinnerets. However, if a female finds a male, the risk to the surrounding population is drastically reduced; She devours the male as a source of sustenance instead of other prey. The male Koritsi is highly nutritious as their bodies are extremely efficient and store almost all nutrients from their diet, presumably for this particular event.
Once the female is impregnated, she carries the eggs within her womb for a few weeks before laying them and watching over them for the 6-month incubation period. She does not eat or move away from her eggs during this time and when the eggs hatch, she is ravenous and may devour anywhere from 100 to 200 of her own offspring.
The Koritsi life-span is around 12 years. If you spot any sign that they may be nesting near or even in your town, call the appropriate authorities. They are extremely dangerous without proper training and attempting to deal with them without said training and the right tools will result in grave injury or death.

I do like creating random bits of lore.
And I really like how this bug girl came out. Perfect for the spooky season :)

I'm really gettin' the hang of this digital thing, I think. Gotta keep practicing tho!

Until the next!
