"Stop Credit Feeding... Part 1"
Tossing a teaser image at an upcoming Drawlloween prompt pic (you can probably guess which one ;) ) since, well, I'm slow (and crappy) at coloring.
Ah, anyone remember arcades of the late 80s and early 90s? Huge dark rooms pierced by gaudy lights and neon signs, rows of coin-ops side by side atop thick rugs sopping up trash and spilled drinks . Plopping your quarters up on the bezel of a machine to claim that you're up next on a popular game...
...those were the days. ^^
(seriously, just find an 'arcade' nowadays)
Even back then there were some games that punished you for 'credit feeding'. You know, slamming in coin after coin repeatedly just to see the end of a tough game.
Some games reset your score...
Some games completely cut off continues/join-ins at a certain point...
Ever play an obscure title by the name of 'TAA-RA-BITE'?
As the current credit-feeding player and a waiting observer are about to find out...it had a pretty unique way of stopping your credits. ;)
Yes, that's another lovely bit of gaming memory from the era in the reflection: beat-em-up heroine Blaze Fielding (and common femme enemy Garnet) as the 'players'. Alright, 'Streets of Rage' was technically early 90s but the game and especially these two characters' aesthetic were 80s. (even though I cheated and used their SoR4 outfits :P )
I really wanted to draw up Taa-Ra-Bite there as a 8 or 16-bit sprite (in THIS pic, anyway) but I ran out of time, sorry. You'll see more of her later...
Follow-up on the appropriate day. ;)
