Short story for Tylaron. The timelaps was posted in animations but I wanted to put up a still of it.
Project still in the works. I have to grey scale it but figured I would post a sneak preview time-lapse. Please let me know what you think.
For the Emperor…..For our souls
Tylron stood eyes wide her paws shaking as she watched on the screen the horrors that were being wrought by the birth of the daemon. This was not the first time she had seen this monstrosity. Once when the cold ice of the Crucible’s iron curtain had touched her and the second during an experiment at 505. Those had both been in her mind though, this, this was real.
She could see it roar from the screen and a moment later the sound caught up and struck the facility she was at. Fear crept into her as her hand trembled over the ancient machines console. Mell came in panting, “Whatever you’re going to do you better do it fast! Daemons are spawning all over!”
Clenching her jaws Tyl tried to push her paw to the console, tried to call upon her power as her eyes grew wider. “I….” She muttered half to herself.
“Damn it Tyl do it!” Mell barked out as she came in putting her paw to the side of her face. Blood ran down it, drooling and dripping off her chin.
Could she use her abilities? Lives were depending on her but the last time she had tried this, it had ended badly and nearly killed many. Looking back at the screen it had zoomed in on the massive daemon and she could see the forces engaging it. Streaks of light from weapons lashed out at it and she could even see the green flare of Sharue’s kine shield. Banal, Risia, Sharue, everyone was fighting it. Sharue couldn’t go all out with out destroying 708 and killing many of the people she had come to know and she was too scared to attempt a mind scape with her former master.
Suddenly the screen shifted and locked onto a vehicle which made Tyl’s heart jump into her throat. “P…PIN! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!” Tyl watched as the vehicle Pin was in careened towards the battle.
“What needs to be done!” Her voice came over the com. “Some one needs to get them the name!”
“That thing will tear you apart!” Tyl yelled out into the vox. Her hands clamping down to the console as she leaned in as if that would bring her closer to Pin.
“Then do something about it! They need this!”
Tyl clenched her eyes shut and dug her fingers into the console, she knew this may be the last thing she did but if she didn’t then everyone she cared about could die as well.
“DAMN IT!” She screamed out throwing her head back and let the blackness wash over her.
Darkness pooled about her as the elder soul slowly came into being. It rippled and flowed but it was not what she was looking at. She was once again in her own mind.
It joined her in looking….up at the caged beast. Tyl had communed with old machines before but this one, this one was the first that had been so violent and so intent on war. It thrashed at its bonds and its howls of rage almost forced the pools of blackness to blow away. The massive machine spirit lurched forward only to hit the end of the chains that held it at bay.
Tyl took a step back, shielding herself with her good arm. The head of the machine looking right at her.
“WHY DO YOU COME FLESH THING?!” It bellowed. “You wish to face my wrath again?!”
Her heart was beating hard and fast, she felt like a feral rabbit cornered by a predator because that was what this machine was, a predator. Unlike the massive ships in space, once which were more like graceful whales and mentalities like old sages. This one was that of a hunter, a machine that strove for death and denied anyone control that was not as thirsty for blood as it.
“No….” It rumbled suddenly calming itself as it strained in its chains. “You wish death, you, hate something.” It said in a low growl.
Had she? Did she hate the daemon? Clenching her fist and jaws she found strength to say the words on her lips.
“I do hate it.” She finally said, tears forming in her eyes. “I hate everything it has done to me, to my friends, to this world.” Which was true, it had been this daemon that pulled the lines of fate to bring Sharue into existence, it had warped and corrupted Issa, it had seen her tormented and those she cared about put in extreme danger. All for itself and now, Pin was racing to it, Sharue and the group fought at its feet.
“Do you wish it death?” The machine had a sense of joy in its voice. “I have not felt this, connected to a mortal in a very, long, time.” It hissed out.
Tyl let her face slowly form a scowl her eyebrows wrinkling in. “Yes.” She said in a low but angry tone.
Suddenly the machine turned its head and body as if looking at something in the distance. “It feels your hate, your intent. It is…..afraid.” It hissed out and Tyl could see its body rippling. “It seeks to stop you. Do you still wish to hunt it?” The massive machine turning back to Tyl already knowing the answer.
She responded with just one word. “Yes.”
The machine stood. “Then…..release me.”
Out side the facility the ground shook as the massive blast doors came to life. Doors that had not seen life in over twenty thousand years slowly opened up to the darkness with in. Another thunderous thump then another.
Suddenly a barrel of a weapon pushed out of the darkness into the blazing sun of the Federation, soon followed by a blaring blast of a war horn as the Warlord Titan took its first step out of its confines sense the Horus heresy. The war machine seemed to relish the freedom as its body soon was illuminated by the sun.
It was met with instant resistance as warp energies blasted against its void shields. Crackling power washed over it, destroying part of the facility door as the daemon had already turned its attention to this new threat. The titan would not be stopped though as it took another step through the slagged sands. Turning its massive cannon towards the nightmare made flesh, screams filled the air as the canon charged, sand and rock trembled and lifted off the ground before a blinding streak of light shot forth from its muzzle. The ground heaved and blew out and away from the Titan sending even small vehicles tumbling out and away from it. The shot sounded like the screams of the damned as it streaked towards its target before striking it.
Tyl stood in the main compartment, her paws gripping the titan’s console and her eyes a flash of violet. Mell was holding on as the ancient machine took its shot. Indicators and machines screeched warnings into the room, but no one knew exactly what it meant.
Mell knew that she had to stop Tyl before too long. Blood was already seeping from her nose and corner of her mouth along with a blood shot eye. Though for now all she could watch as she coughed and seethed out one word.
“DIE!”
One more shot rang out before Mell stepped in and pulled Tyl away putting a paw over her eyes and held her tight.
That shot raced across the sands following the first which had been dissipated across what ever warp force the Daemon had used. This one though held not only the power of the machine but the anger of all who it had hurt. The scream of pain was all Mell needed to hear bellowing across the vox to know that it had struck its target.
“It’s up to you now Sharue.” Mell said finally using Sharue’s name for the first time ever. Pin was heading as fast as she could with the true name of the Daemon, Banal’s group was trying to coordinate the attack, and her team was cornered but their mission complete.
Daemons were crawling over the facility and the Titan. As if they could feel the sudden loss of sentience and were emboldened. Mell looked at the monitors holding Tyl tightly with one arm the other pulling out her plasma pistol as the first clangs of claws against metal sounded out…
