Not sure what this is? Here's a post explaining the series!: https://aryion.com/g4/view/712411
____________
Somehow, we've managed to take down the beast without even a scratch! Though it was a deceptively close battle, seeing how low our mana, and even stamina from all the dodging, are. I tried to at least address, if not use, all the ideas from the last post!
Before we get back on the road, is there anything more anyone wants to ask or say to Esther or Shayura? Or anything they'd like to discuss during the remainder of the trip to Laridan? Or maybe for some reason you'd actually like to shift gears and tag along with the new characters instead?
You can find Adrea’s character sheet here!: https://aryion.com/g4/view/712418
Remember, you can ask any questions about the world (that are relevant to the current chapter) if you think you want/need more information about something! I'll do a 'live' intelligence check before answering if it's something Adrea might know.

I would like to ask Esther about the guild she mentioned, though I suppose I should also ask what we already know about them. Also, probably best to ask if there are any other monsters that might be out of their usual range owing to the basilisk attack.
Other than that, I say we keep with the harpies on their way to Laridan.

Adrea doesn't know anything about the Laridan hunters guild beyond the fact that they posted the bounty she saw about the basilisk
(Sorry, I didn't realize there was a question in here the first time I read through the comment ^^;)

Stick with the harpies and say nothing to the other group. Esther seems egar to get on.

Express gratitude to Esther and Shayura, briefly ask if you can expect any further danger up the road, and let them on their way as Esther seems to be in a hurry.
Once we're back on the road to Laridan, check on everybody and make sure they're ok and not too rattled. Once the excitement from the drake fight has worn off, maybe ask your companions if they've ever had any close calls like that before. Have they ever nearly been gobbled up by a monster or some devious rogue? Have any of them ever had to munch on someone themselves?
Also, maybe see if Filia's pride is hurt after she was forced to not engage with the monster, offer up some words of encouragement! Nobody wants to feel like they couldn't contribute.
Also, a question: are Drake scales worth anything? Can we take anything of value from the corpse? Would trying make Esther mad?

We should indeed at least ask Esther if she mind us taking some scales to at least sell. I honestly imagine that if we get enough scales, we could make a type of armor out of time.

I'll echo everything said here. Checking in on the group seems like a good idea once we set off, and we should check the corpse to see if there's anything of value we can salvage.

The interactions here with Esther's group are brief, and checking our party is definitely in order, so this full comment has my backing as well.
Os, would it be difficult to teach someone some rudimentary magic? We're spent right now, but this group needs better body guards if we're the best they got, and a feel like turning them into flying spellcasters is a good first step.

Yes and no. Adrea lacks the experience to be directly teaching anyone how to cast anything. Broadly speaking, in this universe learning spells is, itself, a magical process rather than something where you can just show or talk someone through how to cast it, and by extension the ability to impart that knowledge on someone else is essentially an entirely separate skill from just being able to cast it yourself. However, most mages learn spells via spell scrolls--magical parchment with a single-use ritual inscribed on it that imparts knowledge of the spell on the reader--rather than directly from someone else, and at least for lower level spells they're not terribly hard to come by.
So getting the harpies started with magic, assuming they're interested and we wanted to pursue that, would be as simple as tracking down some basic spell scrolls at a shop in Laridan when we get there.

Good question! Unfortunately, it's not quite Adrea's area of expertise and she doesn't know if there's anything of value that could be taken from the drake, or really how to go about harvesting something like its scales even if they were worth something. However, she gets the sense that Esther, who's more knowledgeable on the beast and seemingly a hunter by trade, would have shown interest in it if there was anything valuable enough to be worth the effort.

In that case, we should leave it alone then. Oh, I figured that maybe it'd be a good idea to drink a mana potion. I don't recall if mana regenerates passively, or how fast. But, even so, we're nearly entirely defenseless without it. If anything goes awry from here to Laridan we'd be in trouble. Also, we shouldn't expect to be exactly safe there either come to think of it.

Knowing this, I'd also agree that we shouldn't bother checking out the drake. I would like to raise a question about the mana potion though. Would drinking a mana potion now instantly restore all of our mana, or would it restore it over a period of time? If it's the former, I'd vote we don't, and just drink it quickly if we get into trouble again. If it's the latter, I agree we should drink it now.

The potions we have give functionally instant mana restoration, not enhanced regen over time. (Also in response to the other comment: yes, mana slowly regenerates passively)
Posted by RumiBelly 3 years ago Report
Are our potions not easy to access in an emergency? Are there any side effects of remaining at low mana?
If the answer to to either of these is yes then we should drink a potion, otherwise let passive regen do it's thing.
Posted by OsmiumOrchid 3 years ago Report
No to both, there aren't any special detrimental effects for being low on mana and they should be pretty readily available in an emergency! I've been picturing that she keeps at least the one we've had since the start right on her belt and was ready to have her drink it if the fight didn't end when it did
