An ancient family of lamias sorcerers named lamias-oracles in the service of the Theocracy. It is said that these four-armed lamias were blessed by the First Serpent herself and absorbed her magic. And although they are not as strong and fast as the other children of the First Serpent, their magical potential is simply enormous and in order to develop it to a level at which it simply outshines the magicians of other races, these lamias spend almost their entire lives in apprenticeship and meditation in the secluded monasteries of Theocracy. Their very existence protects the Theocracy better than any walls or armies, for even a single lamia-oracle can unleash a horrible rain of fire, or a monstrous hurricane, upon the enemy. However, there is a price to be paid for any power, which is why lamia-oracles may have the highest metabolism of any other lamia species combined. One lamia-oracle can completely devour two other adult lamias and feel hungry the very next day. Therefore, the cost of food for a single lamia-oracle often falls on the shoulders of the whole monastery.

The young oracle Athena was sent to the monastery of Lady Lisa. Most of her time, as befits a lamia of her status, she spends in meditation and learning the art of enchantment, interrupted only by sleep and food brought to her by nuns. But that's according to rumors. In fact, when she's not busy with her project to combat the anti-magic defenses of the minotaurs, she spends most of her time relaxing and honing her card-playing skills, often inviting people who come to the monastery and even other lamias to play for high stakes. For the victory, she offers to use her connections in the Theocracy council and magic to promote the winner in the service, or to grant one wish - within reason, of course. The loser pays for the loss by becoming her dinner. However, defeating the lamia-oracle in cards is in itself an extremely difficult task, and to win against such an avid gambler as Athena is something from the category of pure fiction. Which does not reduce the number of people who want to play, because in the end the bet corresponds to the reward.
