Well here it is, we finally learn what happened to kevin. I've somehow written myself into a place where a pelican is breastfeeding a fish and I have to wonder if I'm even in control of this story anymore lol.

Also side note, I know the nature of Pettie's gut is exceptionally confusing right now, that is (mostly) intentional, so bear with me.

Getting lost in the boobies doesn't sound so bad XD

Interesting how she's a bird and a mammal. People always talk about whether or not anthro birds or lizards or what have you should have boobs and we generally just ignore it but it's a new sort of surreal reading about the idea of breastfeeding something that hatched from an egg, or has a beak. Platypi are weird.

yeah, that aspect of it definitely stuck in my mind. This seems like a logical series of events based on everything I've written so far. Given the fact that the creatures on this world are actually transformed humans it makes sense that their reproductive processes would also hybridize, but it's still really hard to wrap my head around in practice.

My favorite stories and anecdotes are often ones where someone could say "In my defense, each step made perfect sense on it's own at the time". Taking a series of perfectly reasonable ideas, putting them together, letting them play out and ending up with something that's both logical and completely bonkers, two things that go together more than one might think.
IRL too, like I was thinking about what one might show a mad scientist into today's world and more things sprung to mind than I expected, replacing everything in a leaf with meat? A plane with plumbing that only stops leaking when put under high speed? This thing? https://www.sandia.gov/media/images/jpg/Z.jpg
Always fun to find how reasonable steps end up somewhere interesting.
TLDR: weird is fine, it makes sense, and weird is good.

That's a good way to think about it!
