Mora is a young female mosquito currently undergoing diplomatic and socio-political training in the academy under the protectorate of the Ministry of Relations. Full name of the aforementioned department is the Ministry of Insectoid Inter-Racial Relations, and its aim and job is to oversee political and social interactions and relationships between Insects and Non-Insectoid races. The Ministry is mainly staffed by Dipterans (Insects of the fly family), and more precisely speaking mosquitos and other parasitic flies. This seemingly paradoxical state of affairs stems from a long lasting relation between blood drinking and parasitic insectoids and other warm blooded mammals, reptiles and avians. This connection spans across several centuries during which mosquitos and other “parasites” developed a curious connection with their counterpart “hosts.” Because of the fact that mosquitos required warm-blooded hosts and their blood in order to procreate and multiply (female mosquitoes require blood in order for their ovaries to start producing eggs) this pushed both groups of people into a tight socio-political bond. Majority of insects have no real reason or need to mingle and interact with non-insectoids. On top of that insects have intrinsic biological, physiological and behavioral barriers preventing them from fully understanding emotions, behaviors, and actions of other non-insects. Simply because, for example, an ant, a bee, or a termite, due to their hive-oriented societies and bodies, do not easily understand why a wolf, a fox, or a rabbit might feel certain emotions. Feelings of jealousy, intrinsic longing for subterfuge and cunning, being swayed by hormonal changes: those are all aspects very foreign to most insects. However, because mosquitos had developed a necessary bond with other non-insectoids, they’re naturally much more “attuned” to those emotions and feelings and therefore can act as diplomats and mediators between different affairs that involve insects and non-insect people.
Despite her young age, Mora has been distinguished with the title of Emissary by the Ministry due to her exemplary insight and keen talent regarding dealing with other creatures. In her years of studying at the Academy she quickly learned varied intricate nuances of social lives of both insectoids and non-insectoids political spheres. While studying under her mentor and protege, Vexan, Mora was asked by him to take a more active role in a disappearance case involving a fox smuggler vanishing in a Dipteran district of the City of Rod. Confident of her abilities and skills, Vexan entrusted Mora with the role of Emissary, hoping her sharp intellect would help solve the case of recent murders and kidnappings.
