An old pic of Cale, Krail, and Cress from October 2021!
Starting from the middle, that's Cale. He's the village chef. He's been told he has a 'motherly' appearance, and has quite the rotund stomach. He also bakes, and enjoys having the villagers eat his goods. He specializes in fire magic, as it speeds up his cooking and baking.
On the left is Krail. Similar to Gai, he's an Elf. Specifically, a blood elf. This type of elf is extremely dangerous, due to their powerful black magic and reputation for being nigh-unstoppable assassins. Krail in particular is feared for his power- he's the one to call if you need someone dead. On the outside, he appears cold and heartless... Though, those that know him will find a gentle, kind soul. He's very shy in actuality.
Finally to the right is Cress, a mermaid from the sea. He's vain, narcissistic, and will never give up an opportunity to flaunt how gorgeous he is. He is intrigued by humans and wants to learn more about them.
These three are all unlikely relationship partners, so how did they meet, and how did they get together? Cale has lived in the village for all of his life, and one day helped an injured Krail after he was mortally wounded. He should have died, but was saved by the kind chef and nursed back to health. Krail would soon leave again- though not before promising to himself that he would one day repay the chef's kindness. It wasn't until he returned to the village a second time where he would find himself falling in love. The two eventually got together, and the blood elf promised to protect Cale for as long as he's able. (Elves live much longer than humans do. It is very likely Krail will outlive Cale. Until that day comes, however, he'll remain loyally by his side.)
Cress is a bit of an anomaly... He washed up ashore, hungover after a pretty crazy party (he's a bit of a frat mermaid, if you know what I mean) and was brought to the chef with the intent of being made into a meal. After an initial misunderstanding, he recovers and seems interested enough in the village to stay close enough in the ocean's waters and observe the villagers in their daily lives.
'Falling in love' with both Krail and Cale may be an overstatement... He is intrigued and interested in them most of all. Because Cress is a bit too full of himself (and too in love with himself) to truly commit to a relationship, he comes and goes from the couple as he pleases. Though, that doesn't stop the other two from welcoming him back.
As far as their relations go,
Cale - Krail - They've known each other for a while, and are in a steady relationship. Cale's kindness and warmth was just what Krail needed after a lifetime of being labeled a 'murderer'. Cale doesn't judge Krail for his past, and is just happy that he's with him. That isn't to say he thinks that Krail shouldn't be held accountable- but he understands that the blood elf did what he had to do to survive. Outside of the peaceful island, it's a 'kill or be killed' world at its core. Krail sees protecting Cale as the only way to atone for his sins. Being by his lover's side is the only way he can find peace with himself.
Krail - Cress - Krail isn't too sure what to make of Cress. To call their relationship 'polyamorous' would imply that Cress is in with the other two as well, and he simply isn't around/completely 100% invested in it to make it so. Though, he does enjoy the merman's company, even if it can get a little annoying how often he boasts about himself. Cress is enamored with the idea of a 'blood knight' who protects his loved ones, and makes it especially clear whenever he and Krail converse. It may be the closest Cress will get to exhibiting proper love for someone other than himself.
Cale - Cress - Cale is more than welcome to bring the merman into his and Krail's relationship, but sees that he's a little too caught up with himself to give it any proper consideration. Even so, Cale showers the merman with love. Cress enjoys Cale's cooking, possibly more so than anyone else in the village. Even though he never stays in the village for long, he's sure to always return just to try the chef's amazing dishes. It may be the closest Cress will get to exhibiting proper love for someone other than himself.
(It's not that Cress doesn't understand the concept of loving others, he really does just love himself that much. Though, he still flirts/dotes on Cale and Krail enough to where I'd believe he would still sort of/kind of count as being in a relationship with them? Even if it's not 100%.)
(Krail scares off most of the other villagers with his intimidating appearance, though he would appreciate having more friends. He's one of the few people in the village to attend the Priest's sermons, hoping seeking salvation and repentance for his sins will help him become more at peace. He's actually pretty good friends with Redhead, because the latter doesn't speak at all. The two seem to have a non-verbal respect for one another.)
(Cale is seen as a beautiful man, perhaps the most beautiful in the village. No fat-shaming here! Cale has been in a relationship before his current one with Krail and Cress- it was with Joe. It seemed like they were perfect for each other at the time, though Joe has always been a free-spirit, and their personalities clashed a bit too much. The two are still good friends, despite that.)
