it truly is hard to adjust in a dark space
---------
Suddenly, Lapis’ right hand brushed against something soft, a far cry from the hard wood that made up the barn. She flinched instinctively, then furrowed her brow as a wave of warmth ran up her arm.
“Huh? What’s this?” asked Lapis. She touched the strange object, running her hands around its length. Whatever it was, the object was soft like a sponge, yet smooth like silky velvet. It couldn’t be a support beam, yet it was wider then a tree trunk and sturdier than steel.
Lapis squinted in the darkness. Blast this power outage!
“It’s… warm?” said Lapis to herself. She squeezed the object tight, her finger sinking into the doughy warmth. “Did Peridot invent something else other than the generators? That lazy goof! If my eyes weren’t still adjusting, I’d teach that gremlin.”
