Alan doesnt seem to mind that he ruined a good pair of robes. He usually conujures up another pair when this happens.

Cloth robes can act as a magical armor when conjured by the mage offering more protection against spells, but it can be very weak to physical attacks. They can take a bit of time and energy to make but Alan will have plenty to spare after digesting his willing meal.
