"Employment" at a fat farm though easy isn't an often desired job and is usually only an option of last resort for the desperate. Once you are "hired" your rights as a person are forfeit and your pay, though considerable, doesn't go towards you but instead a designated third party usually the family and loved ones of the now livestock that were formerly citizens. The pay is considerable but is considered by some to be dirty money since it comes from such a dark trade. As long as he continues eating and gaining weight he earns money that goes to his family and is enough for them to live very comfortable, some would say even luxurious lifestyle. However there is eventually a cut off point, when the feedee in question is "ready for market" and the family is given an extra large final payout as one awaits their fate.

The fate of fat farm livestock can vary and is mostly determined by how desirable the stock in question is or just by sheer luck. The most desirable, the ones who are considered very cute and have become addicted to the weight gain and feeding, often become pets for those rich enough to feed them and aroused by their girth. The majority are sold at auction, bought and eaten by hungry preds, some of which whose girth matches that of the fat farm stock from being regular customers. The minority, the least fortunate of all, are returned to the fat farms to themselves be used as food to feed others.

Ben wondered which fate would be the best. Being a pet would mean you would live, but is it a life worth living to be fed and besome horny feeder's plaything? He thought about being sold at auction, having the final destination in the gullet of a hungry gluttonous pred and digested alive. Perhaps being meat is the most human option, after all they are euthanized before their bodies are prepared.

Just as he finished that thought a loud beep from his platform sounded and his feeding tube cut off. As it pulled out of his mouth and lifted away he surprised himself by giving an indignant squeal and wobbled in a futile attempt to reclaim the tube like a babe pulled away from a teat. He felt a hunger pang in his go through him, the first one in who knows how long as his body had become accustomed to the constant feeding. As he is lifted up an onto a conveyer belt, he sighed "Looks like today was my day."
