A Failed Adventure (Short Story/Art) By Kismet -- Report

I wanna give a big thanks to the two that made this possible. It was in brainstorming phase with Juno for awhile before being put to commission by KnightGoose. Please do give them your love and support, for this wouldn’t be possible without them. Even created a short story to go along with it Seeing the sketch phase being completed. Enjoy~

——————————————————————————————————

An adventure was what the three girls that were friends had wanted to do! Though they were young, the Guild wouldn’t deny the request to be an Adventurer so long as the job was simple and they were supervised. So they walked into the Guild Hall, looking on the board for the requests that were easy for their current level of challenge. Farnia would look around at the various Adventurers that littered the Guild Hall, while Kismet and Juno examined the requests. They had already gone through the process to be Guild Adventurers yesterday, and were fully recognized as such by the Guild, but not their compatriots.

Kismet herself was a Monk, still developing her proficiencies in Soul Arts, a technique passed down her family for generations that she sought to perfect with experience. Though despite being a monk, she still favored a bladed edge just as much as her fists; Farnia was a Mage, one that excelled in being such, and was permitted to Adventure even at a young age; Juno was the leader of the trio and a Mage like Farnia. She had the ability to summon a duplicate copy of herself, but with her current experience, the duplicate could do nothing but arrive unconscious and faint. It provides a good distraction for a sneaky attack or escape at the failure of the duplicate, but it’s the fact that it’s a failure that makes it a success. She also made up for this with her quick thinking and experience with being a natural born leader, wielding her staff with precision.

As they searched the board, they found nothing of interest; rather, nothing that was within their capabilities. Dejected, the girls turned to make their way to the exit and resigned for today, hoping that tomorrow would have a request that they could handle. Until the Guild receptionist had called out to them.

“Hey girls” She said, as chip and happy as ever, waving a sheet of paper in her hand that caused the trio to turn around. “Got a very easy job for you, slime extermination!”

“Slimes” Kismet said as she walked up, taking the sheet of paper and looking it over. Juno and Farnia had joined her as she did so, inspecting the paper for themselves.

“Yep yep yep!! Just a simple slime extermination. Shouldn’t take long either, a simple in and out job!”

“Slimes are relatively low level, should be easy enough for us” Farnia had said, wanting to take the quest for the three of them.

“Though they’re low level, they have almost no payout either. Cleaning equipment of slime residue is a pain… My sister often talked about how annoying it was to clean her hair, much less her clothes of any slime residue” Kismet explained, showing her disdain towards taking the quest.

“We should take it anyways” Juno said to the other two, whose attention shifted from the paper to the Kitsune. “It beats going back home disappointed with nothing to do throughout the whole day!”

Kismet and Farnia had looked at each other, Farnia wanting to take on the quest that was on the girl’s level of prowess and capabilities, while Kismet seemed a bit reluctant to do so; mainly because of how untidy the slime residue can be following the end of the quest.

“I’ll even throw in a little bonus for you girls~” The Guild Receptionist had said, catching the attention of all three of them. Though Kismet showed her attention, she was still hesitant in accepting it. In the end, she reluctantly accepted, nodding her head along. “Great! Be on your way, you have the paper after all!”

“Right! Let’s get going you two” Juno said as she took the paper from Kismet’s hands, running towards the door that led to the inside and outside of the Guild, Kismet and Farnia running after her. The Guild Receptionist smiled at the three as they made their way off to deal with the slimes.

It didn’t take long for the trio to get there, making short work of the slimes. Unfortunately though, only Farnia had gotten struck with a slime’s acidic residue, burning her arm and causing her to wince in pain; a small casualty that would hamper the group, but not affect the overall goal of the extermination. Afterwards, the slimes had all been reduced to small little acidic puddles, defeated as their cores had been destroyed. The trio stood in the field, looking at the result of their battle.

“Part of me wonders if they’re even on our level” Kismet questioned as she looked at her sword, hesitant to sheathe it from the fear of cleaning out the inside of something she can’t navigate well.

“W-Well, they might not be. But the nice Guild Receptionist offered, so it would’ve been rude to decline” Farnia said in response, breathing heavily as using her spells took a lot out of her. She clutched her arm from the slime residue that proved to be just a bit of acid, splashing onto her arm. “But, we handled it all well! We can even get the reward that the nice Guild Lady spoke about!”

“All in all, it’s a good day’s work” Juno said proudly as she held onto her staff, leaning against it in a pseudo manner. “Now let’s go ahead and head back!”

Kismet and Farnia agreed, before suddenly being engaged into a boss battle with a Lamia that obstructed their path. The three girls stopped, drawing their weapons in preparation, a dreadful feeling washing over the lot of them; they were outmatched, severely. They had no hope against this Lamia, yet they were still willing to fight. Even Farnia was willing to do so, despite suffering an injury with her arm from slime residue, weak but painful acids.

“How nice of food to deliver itself~” the Lamia spoke, licking her lips in response.

The trio prepped themselves for a battle against the Lamia, thinking that their numbers would make up for their inexperience, bolster their strength, and allow them to win. They were wrong, as Kismet’s attacks with her sword was always deflected and countered, leaving her exposed to several riposte attacks; Juno’s simple magical attacks, had remained ineffective against the Lamia as if she nullified them; Farnia’s attacks were sluggish and slow as she exhausted her spells, the Lamia toying with her as she took her injury into account. Outmatched, outclassed, out-everything, it was like a Predator playing with it’s Prey. Then the three decided to use their combination attack, with Kismet charging forth and feinting, Juno using a spell to blind the Lamia temporarily, and Farnia rushing in to deliver a swift punch to the Lamia. This… barely affected her, and the three looked in horror at such a sight. They knew that Farnia was a Mage, not adept for physical combat, but still… their combination attack doing nothing to the Lamia made them all hesitate and falter; this moment of hesitation, was what had sealed their fates.

Automatically, she knew who she was going to go for first, the weak link of the group, Farnia. As she clutched her arm in pain, she couldn’t react to the speed of the Lamia, none of them could even if they were in tip-top shape! She was too fast, tackling the wolfgirl and holding her in a tight vice-like grip. Before Kismet and Juno could even turn around to see what was happening, the Lamia’s tail coiled around them, holding them tightly together. They could do nothing but squirm in the tail, looking over in shock and anger, as they saw Farnia’s head get devoured. She was the smallest of the group, soon being completely taken down within a matter of seconds, the bulge she made traveling along the Lamia's throat to her human belly. Then, a rumbling occurred as a shift was seen, Farnia being slowly dragged down to the second stomach within the serpent tail, to be digested away.

It was clear to the girls what fate awaited them, panicking and trying to break free. Though this did nothing, as Kismet was soon to follow after Farnia in the same manner, and once Kismet was settled in, Juno had came in right after; only difference being, she had went in feet first, watching more of herself get gulped down into the awaiting maw and soon stomach. She could hear the struggling of Kismet as she fought to prevent herself from sinking into the stomach, and she could also hear the cries of Farnia as she was traversing deep into the serpent-half; unnerving both Kismet and Juno as they heard their companion’s cries, Juno hesitated hearing them once more, leading her to be swiftly gulped down without effort. Kismet was claimed and dumped into the second stomach, fighting against her descent, all to no avail. The Mysterious Lamia, that had her fill of an adventurer party, climbed and coiled around a tree along the road, sleeping to process her meals. While Juno was in the human stomach, Kismet and Farnia were both in the snake stomach being worked over, with Farnia having the worst of it considering how far deep into the snake stomach she was.

Hours had passed, and the three girls were soon fully digested and processed, leaving nothing behind of their existence besides a generous donation to the Lamia’s breasts. Their hopes and dreams, aspirations of the knowledge to acquire, as well as their boundless determination, all reduced to nothing but padding on the chest of a superior predator that had easily wiped them all out. The talk of the girl’s mysterious disappearance was about the town, even a quest was put up to find them using their last known location via the Guild Receptionist that memorized where the slime extermination would take place. However, the quest bore no fruit, and was soon dropped after months; it was assumed that the girls had quit being adventurers to run away, but that was the Adventurers of the Guild’s hopeful thinking, not daring to think about a worse case scenario for the trio.
