Cynthia felt some pressure from deep in her stomach. Her belly was ready to release the intense drugs for which she's known. As soon as it began to rise up her gullet, Cynthia took a deep breath. A thick, pink cloud soon flooded her lungs, staining its walls just a little bit more. The giant shark held her breath for a full minute, using her gills to supplement her oxygen supply.
She exhaled. Pink obscured her vision. It tasted of slightly rotten meat and vinegar.
"Nothing..."
She rubbed her sky blue belly, plump with the souls of many previous prey. Happiness flowed through and from it at her touch.
"I'm glad you guys enjoyed yourselves, at least. I keep breathing it in thinking that it could make me happy too."
Only the sound of the ocean breeze responded.
"You ever wanted to know where I come from? Since we're here, I might as well tell you. There are other sharks like me in a massive cavern under the water. Well, not really like me. They eat fish, sometimes whales. I was born different. Kinda tore my parents apart. I couldn't feed myself and nobody wanted to be around me when I got all gassy. Kept waiting for my body to become... normal. At some point I realized I wasn't going to change."
Her stomach rumbled, pushing another stream of smoke up Cynthia's throat. It's unlikely that anyone inside was listening to what she had to say.
Urrrrrphhh...
"I figured if I would go anywhere, I'd follow the stuff that had made my life so miserable. Wasn't really thinking straight, but I couldn't stay home. And now I'm here... I finally realized what my purpose was. You know, nobody was ever overweight down there. I used to be a skinny little thing."
Cynthia patted her tummy, sloshing around its contents. Fat rippled across the surface just as waves washed up against her body.
"I can make anyone up here happy. Anyone who can breathe. Anyone but..."
A heavy sigh escaped her toothy jaws.
"They say there's someone for everyone, right? Nobody down there can stand me, and nobody up here can resist getting churned into goop in my guts. And if I could meet someone who avoids my drugged mist, it wouldn't be right to be with them. No matter how happy they'd be with me, they'd be a million times happier in my stomach. Isn't that right?"
The shark's fingers ran across her midsection, gently caressing the fat.
"I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think anyone's like me. Not now, not ever..."
A pink-tinged tear fell into the ocean and dissolved in the water.

This is a delightfully somber piece; the way you do sentient fat and soul play in general is attractive, but I've not seen something where the pred is the one that's stricken with melancholy or displeasure. An interesting combination that I think strikes well with the mini-story you wrote to go along with it.

You have no idea how happy I am to hear that. I really wanted to hammer home Cynthia's characterization here, but the response from most people has been fairly middling. It's good to see that somebody really appreciates what I was going for.

Characterization is one of the hard parts with, well, anyone, because there's a lot of way people interpret things; I think you have a lot of clear themes going on with it that're not often explored in combination, and it's unfortunate that it's been as successful as it could be, but I think it definitely nails the "this is an uncommon combination, but also attractive" aspects without either dominating too much to force the other out of focus.

That's pretty high praise. Thank you so much.

I’m guessing with the way things’ve been setup by you here, it really isn’t gonna be remotely possible for any of her “assimilated” prey to even try and console her in any way, shape or form?

Unfortunately for her, no. Even if they did have a way to speak to her, the constant stream of countless voices would drive her insane.
