LOG ENTRY : XX-20
Although sharing many similarities with its distant cousin, Homo sapiens, Homo gulosus do have many key differences with its internal biological mechanisms that allows them to pull off the spectacular stunt of stuffing themselves to the brim.
One key difference would be the complete lack of a hormone also known as leptin, a hormone which controls our appetite. This allows members of H. gulosus to continue seeking after nutrients even if there is an excess of energy storage within a furnace's body, such as after recently digesting live prey.
Although, there is a mechanism in place which inhibits hunger for certain furnace species, its exact mode of operation is not exactly known. One theory suggests a series of sensory nerves which detect movement within the stomach cavity, along with specialised stomach cells that help maintain muscle fibres within the gut. If the sensory nerves detect a lot of violent movement, or if the specialised stomach cells have detected that the stomach has been stretched to a certain degree, they send electrical impulses to the brain that would inhibit hunger or appetite.
Though in certain species, it seems like instead of limiting the amount of nutrient intake, it simply just adapts to overcome an ever increasing number or load of prey.
