Lydia is very protective of Mark, and while jealousy certainly plays a part her main concern (supposedly) is preventing Mark from getting gobbled up himself. A big, gurgling gut is a telltale sign of a pred (as evidenced by Lydia herself), and that girl could have pounced on him at any moment. It definitely had nothing to do with another girl acting friendly towards him! No way!
